body question.....

The "seam" just behind the rear window......where the edge of the rear quarter panels meet up with body part that's under the rear window...(66 coupe)....instead of a seam...why not weld it flush and grind it flat so that seam disappears ? Any problem?

Re: body question.....

I've seen it bondoed over before, and subsequently crack. Which leads me to believe it's ah flex point. Thus if you weld it flat it may cause ah crack in the metal. Much like they all do at the quarter window and the top of the quarter panel. If I remember correctly I think ford filled it with seam sealer to allow flex. All that being said I'm sure by now you have frame rail connectors and don't have as much flex as stock. Soo you could be okay, if you plan on driving the car in primer for ah while you could try it out and see. But if not you could be risking having to repaint.

Re: body question.....

I've seen them filled in before. Shouldent be a lot of flex in the welded seams.
Ford wouldent have done it, cost savings. After all who realyl notices that seam??
