1965 mustang 289 factory ac. I purchased a new aftermarket timing chain cover for my mustang. Before pursuing changing it. I picked up my water pump to place them together and the pump doesn't fit. I look at the old timing chain cover in comparison and it has two extra holes in the bottom
Where the water pump mounts. My new one does not have these holes. My water pump on my car not original is a alluminum water pump purchased from
Oriley auto awhile ago. It has a visible impeller. Any ideas? Do I just need the other water pump with the impeller cover?

This is what my original cover looks like.

The photo is of an early model timing chain cover. Early Mustangs had a pump with exposed impellor. The front cover is the rear of the pump. Later models - beginning half way thru 65, I think - had a one piece pump with a sheet metal cover on the back. Looks like you got a late model timing chain cover and need an early model one.

That's what I figured I haven't had any luck finding an early cover. I think I'm just gonna buy a new water pump with the enclosed impeller. That way I don't have to send my cover back.
