hey all,
Taking my '66 coupe to the strip at the end of the month. i've only been once. didn't have great results back then.. car is running much better so I figured it was time to give her another go.
'66 coupe
'95 50
offy intake
edlebrock 1405 4brl carb
long tube headers 2.25" dual exhaust
rebuilt c4 with shift kit
2,79 rear with power trax locker
shelby style traction bars
225/60r15s on the back
My car is a lot of fun to drive but i would exactly call it fast. I can squawk the tires but can't do a brake stand at all. However if the street is even a little wet the tires will spin like crazy. Had a guy I respect a lot when it comes to cars tell me that my hp may not be high but my not being able to do a brake stand isn't a bad thing. Saying that it makes for a quicker launch because the leafs, traction bars, and tires are doing their job gripping the road.
I'm not sure if i believe that so i ask what are your thoughts?
Any suggestions for having more success at the track? I'm only looking to break my old times, which should be more than easy since i had serious transmission issues when i was there last.
What can i do for just a little more power (not like you ever have enough right)?
Not looking to set records, just have a good time and set a better time and get some cool video.
Thanks.

Well your tall gear ratio will be your biggest hindrance, and most likely why you can't power brake the car. As for rolling with what you got, I'd start with ah tune with ah vacumme gauge to it running tip top. As for once your at the track I'd run the car on ah half tank of gas or less, lower the rear tire pressure to 25 to 30, raise the froms to 40 to 45, lose the spare tire, jack and any other lose junk out of the car. If possible take off the AC belt. does the car have ah C4 in it? If so proper shifting will make a world of difference.

Get rid of the 2:79 rear....
I'd guess you'll get mid 15s with that setup.

Ditto... Gotta have at least 3.70:1 ratio at drags.

Please tell me you have installed the lighter advance springs in the distrib...I am always preaching about!
Put plenty of timing in the engine (butt-knot so much it rattles) Adjust carb again with a vacuum guage.
You COULD disconnect the front sway bar while at the strip to get max lift of the front end when launching. (Just re-connect when you drive it home.)
Don't get in the water box unless its just for pictures.
Open them headers brother!

6sally6,
I have to be honest, I have not done that. I'm learning a lot as I go and the car has been running so good I'm some times scared to mess with it if it isn't broken. Is there a good read on how to do the spring swap and dial it in after? If I understand what I'm doing I could take it on.
I won't bother with the front sway bar, but I'll be sure to unload any extra gear that isn't needed. I'm looking forward to doing a few runs. It will be fun.

This article gives good instructions how to modify your timing advance curve. Got pictures too!
I would only add....buy and install a timing tape on your balancer. This way you will be able to read(using your timing light) how much and when your total timing comes on.
Problems??.....Just axe me
