Wheel info for jkordzi

The wheels I have on the 12.5" brakes are Cragar Vintage all aluminum chrome GT.  The part number is 610C771214 at Summit Racing.  The wheel is also available in a natural finish but I don't know the PN.  You can find it on Summit, I'm sure.

I recommend you do what I did if you like that wheel.  I tried to buy one wheel with a return guarantee but the guy I was trying to do business with would work that way.  So MS says, "Go to Summit, they'll take anything back".  And they will, wheel included, as long as you don't mess it up or mount a tire on it.

So I bought one to make sure it would clear everything, then ordered three more with tires.  Summit's price for tires was competitive and the price for the wheels was $15 less that the fool that wouldn't work with me.

Here's an address: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/crr-610c771242/overview/

Good luck.

Re: Wheel info for jkordzi

Thanks.  You mentioned that there was lots of room around the caliper diameter and about 1/8 inch between the caliper face and the back of the spokes.  Do you think there's enough room around the caliper diameter to fit the later 13.2" GT brakes?

Well, all things being equal, your caliper should be about 3/8" farther out than mine...and with the clearance mine has, that should fit...maybe.

Like I said, if you like the looks of the wheel...I'll try to post a pic in an hour or so...buy one from Summit and check it.  Then if it don't work you are only out the shipping.

Just for the record, our 66 has the 1" lowering springs, Arning drop, and rolled fender lip.  I had the springs out and ran the suspension up and down and checked the clearance with a straight edge across the wheel (no tire).  It appeared to have right at 3/4" which gives me a tad over 1/4 with the 225-45 tires.  I'll know exactly when I get the engine/trans in and get it down where it belongs.  Like I said, I'll try to get a pic posted in an hour or so.

Re: Wheel info for jkordzi

Here's a couple of pix that sort of show the wheels.  Can tel about clearance as there's no weight on the car yet.

Hope this does you some good.  To my eye the wheels are a bit "pimpy" but Jean won't be happy with anything but Cragar SS's.  Well, these are close enough and the alow me to have the brakes I want.  I'll prolly get used to them.

Re: Wheel info for jkordzi

Well, I didn't get any feedback from my post asking which wheels fit MS's 2011-2013 Mustang GT 13.2" Disc Brake Conversion, so guess I'll have to experiment.  I ordered one of these from Summit today:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRR-500G771242

I figure it should be close to the same kind of fit as your Cragar.  We'll see.  If it fits the front, I'm going to see about going w/ the 8" for the back.

Re: Wheel info for jkordzi

I'll bet that works just fine.  It appears to have the same slightly hollow back on the spokes that our Vintage wheel has. I originally told you "Classic"....sorry, just a mild case of crainialrectosis.

Well, I got this wheel in today and I can confirm that it does not fit MS's 2011-2013 Mustang GT 13.2" Disc Brake Conversion, as it hits the caliper.  Really a shame that there is such a limited number of wheels to choose from.  Guess I'll ship it back and look for another.

Re: Wheel info for jkordzi

So MS took pity on me and hooked me up w/ one of his brake kit customers who had bought a set of 17X7" wheels that fit a 65.  I ordered one to try and it came in today and I can confrm it clears the 13.2" 2014 GT calipers I mounted to MS's kit.  It is a Rev 100 and I got it here:

http://firstchoicewheelsandtires.com/?page=moreDetails&wheelOrTire=wheel&item=2152

It looks like a variation of the Torq-Thrust M or the Bullit wheel.  Like a lot of aftermarket 17X7 wheels, it has a 4" BS and it would fit better if it was 4.5", but it looks like a reasonable tire will still clear the fender.  The guy MS referred me to has 17X7s up front with 225/45 and 17X8s in the rear w/ 235/45.  I don't have tires yet but will update when I do.

Re: Wheel info for jkordzi

Here's a picture of the wheel:

It looks a lot like a torq-thrust M or a bullit wheel.  Here's a picture of the backside:

I was able to get a doubled piece of card stock between the caliper and the wheel at the tightest part.   Pleanty of clearance between the spokes and the front of the caliper.  As MS says, "clearance is clearance," so I'm going with it.  This is a 17X7 wheel with zero offset, which works out to a 4" backspacing.  I'm going to start with a 225/45 tire and try for a 235/45.  I bolted it up the rear, which is from a Lincoln Versailles, and there was about 2-1/8" between the outer rim and the leaf spring, which means I could run a wider wheel w/ more backspacing in the back.  Rev makes a 17X8 with zero offset (4-1/2" backspacing) and one with 12 mm offset (5" backspacing).  By my calculations, I can fit  the 17X8 with 5" backspacing with at least a 235/45 tire and maybe a 245/45 tire.  We will see.

I wonder if the stick on wheel weights would work. Guess I'm going to be buying this kit for my christmas present!!!! Thanks for posting the pictures!!

I think I'll have to mark the general part of the wheel where the caliper is closest and ask the wheel balancer to put the stick-on weights to the inboard of that.
