Starving carb?

I have a 66, 289, m/trans and all of the sudden it died. Started back up and it runs smooth at both high or low idle for about 10-20 seconds then just wants to die. If you hear it start to die you rev it and it stays on but during the rev up it's very sluggish then evens out for another 10-20 seconds. I thought fuel pump so I changed it but still the same. It has an edelbrock 500cfm that is 8 months old. Any suggestions?

Re: Starving carb?

I had a problem with several edelbrocks  not having the floats properly aligned from the factory.  I'd pull it open see what it looks like. Also I second everything else the others said
