I am back from Afghanistan and read to start the work on the car.....

First up is getting the Carb heat issue fixed. I was advised by the Edelbrock Tech department to buy a 3/8" thick gasket to avoid percolation after running for a while. This was a problem drive to and from the Bash.

Second is to fix the rear axle leak Glenn and Steve pointed out while my car was on the lift.

Third is to install the E-brake contraption that I haven't built yet, but got some great ideas from looking at some of the cars at the Bash.

Trip to Afghanistan was good. No booms on my side of the fence while I was at both bases. I got to watch some videos of big booms that stopped bad guys. Ebola seems to be the story here in Dallas.

Great to be home in Texas safe and sound.

Ed

Yaaaa! for our side and glad you made it back home!
You gonna have enough space under your hood for the spacer?
Reason I axed....on the way home from the bash...mine was running pretty ragged and I decided to replace the air filter. It was a tad taller than my other one and it press the "button" on top of my air cleaner righ up against the hood! Close quarters un'ner there!
My problem was a vacuum leak (in the vacuum advance can,of all places) I plugged off both vac ports on the carb and  rough running went away.
Lettuce now how it works fer ye!

Re: I am back from Afghanistan and read to start the work on the car.....

I put some modeling clay on top of my air cleaner a little while back and found that I had about 1 3/4 inch clearance. This thicker gasket is only 3/8 inch thick.
I was able to steal some time away this afternoon and install it. Engine started right up. And then I found that knocking sound coming from the engine.

Oh yeah that knocking sound. Have to redo my rocker arms too.

Re: I am back from Afghanistan and read to start the work on the car.....

Glad to hear your back Ed.
Roller rockers never do quiet down. However like I said at the Bash 5/8 to 3/4 turn hits just about right. When I remember how to do; Usually do 5/8 turn, and then add an extra 1/8 on the locking nut.
You'll develop a technique, and the get used to the noise.

Re: I am back from Afghanistan and read to start the work on the car.....

Welcome back Ed.  I added a 3/8" spacer under the Edelbrock carb on my 302 and it fit, but I did the modeling clay also.  It did make a huge difference on my hot starts.
Good luck with your project.
