I saw mustang Steve's power lock upgrade and when I saw the a1 power window kit he put in it hit me those motors are just gm actually out of a 90s style beretta. I'm wondering how easy do you guys and gals think modifying the sicsors on are car would be? I'm gonna go to the salvage yard and yank one out. Just cause I'm mocking one up I don't need one from autozone etc if I like it ill buy new.

As big as I am on "do it yourself" stuff where you figure out how to make something else work on something it never thought of being installed on, the A1 kits do have stronger arms on them and are so darned easy to install I think I would spend my time somewhere else. If you install motors on the Mustang regulators, be sure to add some bracing to the flimsy regulator arms and I bet it will work fine!
The main reason I went with those power regulators is because when the windows are rolled up tight, they STAY that way, totally unlike the original stuff.
Let us know how it turns out!

Them look close, let's us know how it works out. If you find a donor car make sure to cut plugs to the motor and grab any useful switches.

I tried to make power windows with the manual regulators, a few years ago. I actually got it to work. I went to pick and pull and compared several motors. The ones I found the easiest to use were Bosch motors. The gears were very close. I only had to do a little r&d, to make it work. It was slow, and seemed to lack power. However, it DID tuck under the wing nicely and was no clearance problems. This being said.....
I bought A-1 power windows.
The end result, it wasnt worth it.
No I dont have pictures anymore, lost those on a hard drive crash a long time ago. I do not remember what I got the motors out of. I think it was Neons. I do think I still have one of the motors because I never bothered to make a passenger side.
Edit: I remember now, I used Sebring/Stratus motors

I have Elecrtic Life power units in my car as well, The only complaint is that the door windows go up and down too fast, the rear ones go slower. Its a nice set up though.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
