Hi, I've just joined this forum. I am based in the UK and own a 68 mustang fb which has under gone full restoration (on and off) for the last 11 years. I am near completion and can see the end in sight. I am looking for advice in what throttle pedal and cable combination to use on my car. I will have 358ci which will be fuel injected (fast). I have just purchased a manual pedal assembly with booster/cable from mustang steve and so looking forward to fitting this. I have looked at the Loker assembly but although a really nice piece of kit, just does not blend in with the clutch/brake pedal. I am looking for stock appearance and easy stock availability if parts need changing such as the cable.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Many thanks
Razi

Well first of all...Welcome to the best place on the Web. You'll be glad you found it.
Second: I don't know about 68s as far as their throttle setup but if you are using a FAST (throttle body type) EFI I would think you may be able to easily mod the stock setup to operate the FAST TB.
Or so it would seem.
Failing that, I think a number of folks are using a 70 cable type throttle pedal...I think. Our 66 has Ford EFI (with the TB pointing left) and I am using a modified stock throttle pedal/rod. Works just fine.

Welcome aboard.
I have a Lokar kit in my 65 because they have a 95 specific throttle cable that matches my throttle body.
I have heard of people that have used just the original pedal on the lokar setup.
I looked at doing mine the same way, and it seemed doable, but decided to leave it until I had nothing else to do.
So it will probably never get done.

Howdy & Welcome.
As BB said, use a 1970-up throttle pedal. I use fox body(86-93) 5.0 thrrottle cable on my ECCIV EFI 331 in 65 2+2.

Thanks for the warm welcome and advice. Current setup consists of pedal and rod, it's good to know this can be used but I do like the idea of using 70 pedal and fox cable. I think I will go with this.
Thanks again.

You may find that Fox cable to be a bit long for your FAST TB injection since it mounts in place of a carb. Probably could use the cable that goes with the 70+ pedal.

Hi Razi
70 pedal is the way to as all the other guys say on here,i done efi conversion on a 68 mustang used a 70 pedal which allowed us to use the cable from the 89 mustang,a lokar kit will work with your fast fi.javed

The stock pedal and rod will work fine and be simpler (read: less to go wrong) than a cable. Be sure to use double spring. This ishow the stock linkage will connect and a suggested spring mount.
If you want cable, the 70 Mustang or early 70's vintage V8 Mavericks and Comets work well. Your FAST EFI linkage will be identical to the Holley carb shown. For a cable setup, you will need to buy or fabricate a 4v carb style attaching bracket where the cable housing stop bolts to the rear two bowls of the carb or throttle body.
I have an MSD Atomic EFI for sale cheap if you have not already bought one!

Before I sell it, go look up all my posts about my trials and tribulations with it. Just search atomic efi and you should find it. I have the $2,400 setup with the inline pump and all the tubing, plus the $500 return system they do not tell you that you need until after you buy the thing. Includes return line fuel pressure regulator and all tubing. Will take $1,500 but you have to promise me you read all my posts about it before I will sell it to you. It works best with an in-tank or otherwise submerged fuel pump. Was used for one year. Drove it to Tennessee and back to Texas without any issues but I will be damned if it would make it to Sonic and back.

Thank you guys for the feedback and pictures. It's good to know I have both options available, rod or cable where I can keep stock appearance. Thank you steve for the offer on the efi but this has already been acquired.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
