MachTJ, all belt driven accessories have been eliminate early on. I agree that it might be vacuum related...I have not pulled the filler cap with it running. Just didn't think of that but it's a good idea and I will soon. I couldn't find any vac leaks on the outside of the manifold if that makes sense. It is injected though and I have had an internal vac leak years ago that made it hard to "hot start" but it ran fine...EFI is very forgiving...so something like that may be the culprit.
Since the Bash trip it has developed a very slow coolant leak so I'm going to be giving it my attention. I'm planning to pull the manifold and reset it if I can't come up with any other causes for the noise, or if the leak can be traced to the manifold, which would be a good hint, maybe.
Thanks to Technomancer for resurrecting this thread. When bash time came last year I just figured, well, it'll either make it or fall apart and then I'll know what's what. Now I have a couple of new ideas...thanks guys. Hope to see you all at the bash...my car doesn't need to be REAL reliable to make the bash this year. LOL

Many, many, and many years ago, in the late 60's, I had a customer with a 64 Comet. She heard a knocking in the engine and had it towed into my shop. The noise was in the pan but it wasnt like a rod or crank. When I pulled the pan, there were 4 oil drive shafts laying in the pan, two of which were seriously bent!

Fortunately, I managed to get mine reseated in the pump. Great story though, thanks.
