Re: Expensive Project!

Dreamer?  Some of that rust looks a bit deeper than surface.

Re: Expensive Project!

Looks like to me the car was blasted to bare metal and then some cheap primer was applied to the exterior, and then the surface rust set in.  I am not seeing anything worse than just flash rust on the surface.  If they  took it and cleaned it up again, it looks like a pretty nice body to start a build with.  $15k seems a bit steep for a car that far apart, but it would cost more to start with a dynacorn body that has tons of fitment issues.

That car only needs two things to make it show quality.  Everything on the exterior, and everything on the interior.

Re: Expensive Project!

About a year ago, Jim Bowie & I were both looking for relatively rot free 65/66 coupe shells throughout southern Wisconsin & northern Illinois.  There were a few abandoned projects out there, all more rotted that either of us wanted.  Bottom line:  I couldn't find a rot free coupe shell for $3000.  I'm with MS on this one, it's a fb, and it's not too far gone.  Obviously, $15K is a hallucination.  If he gets $15 for that, that would make me feel REAL GOOD.

Steve69, keep an eye out for when the 70% off sale happens, and give me a shout.  I need a shell to put all my extra parts on.

Re: Expensive Project!

15k Nahhh, "A" code all the parts maybe 7k.
It really does make me wonder what is Miss May worth. Or if there is anyone who'd pony up what  I would take.

I drove the 2+2 to P-cola Sunday, and the Mustang show there. Most folks had packed up and gone, I was surprised at how much attention the car generated both on the street and at the fair ground, with +patina+ and unwashed.

Hey Tim C,  He's been posting on and off for the last year.  He hasn't lowered his price a dime.  Ill let you know when its down to $8000.

Re: Expensive Project!

Re: Expensive Project!

$15k? Smoke crack much?  How about $20 and some envelopes?  If he had all the parts to put it back togehter maybe $8k, but it would need an engine, wheels & tires, brakes, center section for the rear, axles, basically all the stuff he clearly doesn't have anymore.  An A code car is just a 4 barrel 289.  Even if it was a K code car I still don't see it as the opriginal engine is gone.  Maybe if it was a Shelby, but its not.  I too have heard stories of the Dynacorn bodies, but this one would still need to be stripped again, properly primed, etc.

Re: Expensive Project!

Maybe the boat trailer underneath goes with it.
That would expain the price

Re: Expensive Project!

So what do you think a completely rust free 66 gt coupe shell is worth.  More or less.

Re: Expensive Project!

Ernest, it all depends on the demand...  If I had a serious wreck in my fastback and it needed a new A code body to put the car back together again, it would be worth alot more than if it is a bare shell sitting there with no engine, tranny, rear end, paint, interior etc etc.
If you have to buy all the rest of the parts to assemble the shell, it would certainly be cost prohibitive.  I have seen fully restored shells go for $8k a few years ago.  That is with all body work done and professionally primered.  Things have escalated a bit in those few years, but that one would need a whole lot of work to get it to that condition.

Re: Expensive Project!

I'm not in the market to buy but I have a very very clean rust free 66 gt coupe shell that I can't decide what to do with. Just wondering how much it's worth.

Re: Expensive Project!

Might just be an opinion thing, but I doubt you can compare a coupe body to a fastback body.  Maybe the GT thing will add some value, but there are alot of coupes out there!

Re: Expensive Project!

That reminds me of the time back in about 1983 I was cruising around in my fastback ( I was still in high school) when this dude approached me and asked me if I needed any parts for my car. The next day I met him at a farm and out in one of the barns was this partially disassembled fastback. I can't even remember if I bought anything or if the car had been wrecked. I probably could have bought the whole thing for a few hundred bucks. But heck I didn't need another one or would of had a place to store it. If I only would have known the future. Back then everyone wanted the convertibles.
I payed $500.00 for mine and 30 years later I'm still working on it, it's kind of a sickness I suppose. A good one though.
