Done anything to the car over the winter? Planning on anything new? Shows? New babies? Let everyone know you exist!

Since the car came home, I haven't spent much time there. Spent the next weekend in Galveston for spring break. A weekend in Kenner Louisiana for the Bayou regional robotics competition. A weekend in Fort Worth for state final bowling tournament. A weekend at the Lone Star regional robotics competition. And a weekend at the house doing stuff I've neglected over the last month. Currently sitting on a charter bus heading to St. Louis Missouri for the FIRST Robotics world championships. I will get back home on Sunday afternoon. Go team 4587, Jersey Voltage.
Y'all keep wrenching on the cars, I'll keep reading and get started on mine as soon as I can. The only wrenching I've been able to do is the fuel pump in the old suburban. It sat in the drive for a month before I got to it.
Y'all have a great weekend.

I am getting my car prepped for the Real Texas Festival in Mesquite this weekend. Cars, BBQ, Rodeo, live music.

Well I was working toward replacing my leaky cowl with a new Dynacorn one, but my '66 fastback was not cooperating, about half the bolts holding the front sheetmetal on were rusted solid. Apply rust solvent, exercise bolts, repeat, many times. Then I realized my radiator support was seriously tweeked, buy more parts. Then my wife announces she wanted the kitchen remodeled, NOW! Guess what I have been doing for the last two months? The new countertops do look nice. I guess I won't be buying any old Fords at the Mecum auctions this year, my discretionary account has been drained for the year.

I'm this close (Picture my thumb and forefinger with about a 1/8 inch of air between them) to buying a welder and learning how to bond pieces if metal together in a beneficial manner. I've waited a couple of weeks for help with my Fox body cheap @zz seats. Like most of them, it broke and leans to the right. The seat track also broke and the front left seat mount actually TORE out of the floor. I'll post a pic sometime. Ford really saved money on the seat and floor sheet metal. Congrats bean counters. So I've decided that I have been intentionally incompetent in this area far too long. Gonna learn. Any hints on a decent entry level welder or you tube tutorials would be appreciated. You may PM me so as not to take up space in the thread and/or bore others. Thanks.

STILLL recovering from by-pass surgery (and exhaust valve replacement) Can't lift much sooooo old 66 is still in state of dis-repair I left it in prior to surgery.
Got almost all the fiberglased and bondoed holes repaired with new arn. Still need to pull rear window and grind/cut /fabricate/weld a spot or two under glass. Put new re-pop hood ...rear valance...rear glass.. rear side glass...rear seats..tire.. pull chrome trim..lights..etc.
My body /paint guy(who has ME on caller ID) said if I would really tack the repairs good......no need to weld solid and warp the crap outta everything. He needs to be able to get to the back of all the new metal so he can seal it with water-proof fiberglas/bondo. Less welding...less warping....works good!
Not real sure if I will be able to drive it to the bash though...
may not be finished in time.(Now I sound like a bunch of guys on THIS board, huh?!)
Painter today sez he's pretty backed up on work so it may be in the "cueing line" when bash time comes.
Ms 6sal6 planted a garden(with my close instructions) the other day sooooo...when the EMP bombs go off......or the poison gas from the jet contrails.....or the next terror attack...or the big race wars break out....I'll be able to eat something! Tomatoes...peppers...squash...cucumbers...will get old REAL quick,I'm afraid!
I AM becoming a real pro at surfing the web and NetFlix while I'm layed up.
I know....."patience, Butterfly"

Since the Doc said the cancer was no where to be found, I have been able to get about 3 hours a day working on the Stang. The new floor supports are almost finished. Wish I good spend more time working on it but the old body only lets me work about 3 hours and then I got to stop. It is a lot better than sitting in the recliner waiting for things to get better. I have about 5 years of back log to work on.

Spent the first two weeks of April in Florida sitting on the beaches and counting Waves. Temps in the upper 80's.When I returned to Wisconsin, did the salt lick test on the roads, no salt. Woke the pony up from it's winter nap and headed up north to turn water on, at the cottage. Temp's in the 60 to 70 range. When I returned home temps took a tumble, even had some snow mixing in with the rain. After all this is Wisconsin. Will Be heading to Jefferson swap meet this weekend, should be cool and dry so far. Also finished up 64 Fairlane engine detail project over the winter.

Got the New Rod and Custom 4 Link installed in the rear. Also finally got my Brakes working correctly after all these years. Turns out the kit I bought about 10 years ago had the wrong length MC Push rod in it, I always thought it was just something with the 40 year old brake lines. Now that I have that sorted out, I can finally lock up the brakes...first time I've been able to do that since I bought it over 30 years ago..... Way Cool.
Coming home from a show last Saturday the Lower Clutch Rod decided to escape while I was driving down I-35, freaky feeling seeing the clutch pedal just drop to the floor. Got the parts coming and will be ready for the AER/Sam Pack Museum show on May 2nd.

Still fighting this darn Lyme Disease. That prompted me to farm out the final body/paint on the 65 FB.
I'm getting the dreaded "two weeks" when prompted for a completion. Not really in a hurry, because I don't really feel like assembling it when it comes back.
About all I got done over the winter was a new toolbox and all my tools more organized than they've ever been.

Back to work on the 67.All the front sheet metal in mounted. Hope to get the headliner installed this week end.

I am still working on reassembly of the 66 fastback after paint. Mainly just have the doors and associated weatherstrip to complete. Working as time allows and procrastination permits. Since all the paint has now shrunk into all the nasty looking scratches, it has to go back to the paint shop for another cut-n-buff. Not sure how you cut-n-buff out 80 grit scratches, but we will have to see. Since alot of the clips for the stainless trim broke off the rear window surround, I will have to pull the glass out and attach some new clips (Thanks, Bullet Bob for the clips), then reinstall the glass and a FOURTH set of new stainless rear window trim. I am determined to have window trim with no dents in it. and so far, it ain't happenin'.
And I need to find someone to do some minor work on the boat before I take it to the valet storage place at the lake for the summer. It has a rubber boot leaking at the transom, and it would be nice if the darned thing would actually FLOAT if the bilge pump quits.

Muzz, you know they make bolt-on subframe connectors for Fox Mustangs and they have the seat mounts built in and strengthened to fix that seat mount issue.

Well. Im way behind where I wanted to be. But chronic health issues make me a snail and that's fine. Over the winter, I got the rear back under the Gal, so then I turned my attention to the convertible. I have it all stripped down and its pretty much ready to go up on the rotissierie, It needs all four short floors as the rears have pinholes in them. I managed to get all the silt washed out of the garage yesterday, and have the dehumidfier running in there. Had a big bonfire, now to the season of taking care of 3 yards, (mine and my neighbors on each side) & other related domestic issues of being a Mr. Mom keep my a lot busier than most people realize.

Well it's been a really great couple of days for us. Monday morning GKM24 (Graham) and his buddy Jeff arriveg here from London, England to haul off the old Cragar's that we had on the coupe. Graham works for the airlines so flying is pretty reasonable for him. He said it was easier to come get the wheels than to try and ship the home....and they wanted to see some of Colorado. Great guys. We had a fine visit and got to meet a couple of more Mustang folks from the other side of the globe. Wonderful.
Then Monday evening Mrs. and Mr. JKB arrived from Houston via OKC. Jean and Tanya spent Tuesday checking out the local antique emporiums while Josh and I played with the Mustang and loaded a bunch of garage points into his truck.
It was a brief but wonderful to visit with fellow Bashers who have become great friends. Can't wait 'til September to see them and all of the rest of you who we now count as friends thanks to MS and his forum. I've said it before and I mean it...this is the best place on the web and it's populated by many of the best folks in the world. I am honored to be included.
Thanks,
BB

Well I woke up the 65 from winter storage last Sunday. Fired right up and ran great on the ride home.
Floor stains were from prior occupant.....
Now that the bath remodel is complete, plans for 65 include getting the horn on the deluxe wheel working, putting on a dual bowl mc and replacing soft brake lines, and little stuff like that. Plans to make it Bash worthy require charging the a/c, new radio, cruise control, seat track extenders, and stabbing the T5 in it.

Thanks Steve. Whole lotta ups and downs. It could always be worse, so I just try to keep on rolling along.
A couple of my buddies actually believe thats a Snap On setup. I forget to tell them its actually a Harbor Freight trio.

No...I didn't...thank you. Can you tell me who makes them? I did put in a new seat track which will outlast the car but the only drawback to that is you can forget putting your hand under the seat very easily to clean or retrieve items that make thier way down there.
Never mind. Found them. Thanks, again.

My work on my own 65 time got spent fixing my kids cars this year. Those overhead cam motors are a pain when the timing chain goes! Dealer wanted more to fix than the car is worth. Then the security system locked everything up when the battery was disconnected dealer wanted more for that than the car is worth, another pain but found a hack. Daughter's Jeep needed new front hubs, antoher pain. Oh well, now it is race season, so I get to work on race car no matter what! Maybe I can get to the 65 between races if nothing breaks.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
