65 200 6 cylinder Valve Adjustment

Couldn't find anything on a basic search.  Reassembling my engine, lookin for the easiest valve adjustment procedure.

Thanks

Re: 65 200 6 cylinder Valve Adjustment

Are they even adjustable?  What year 200?

Re: 65 200 6 cylinder Valve Adjustment

I was told years ago that the 6 cylinder engines had "self-adjusting" valves.

Does that make sense?  Is that a "thing"?
Like I said, someone told me that.

Re: 65 200 6 cylinder Valve Adjustment

On the 200, if they are not adjusting enough to make the lifter noise stop, you most likely have a problem with collapsed lifters, or wear.

IF you want to make them adjustable, you could find a rocker train from an earlier model 170.  Those had adjustment bolts on them.

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

Re: 65 200 6 cylinder Valve Adjustment

If you have a stock, unmolested 200 then they aren't adjustable.  The way to tell is if the pushrod has a ball on the upper end and the rocker has the cup then they are not adjustable.  If the pushrod has the ball and the rocker has the cup then they are adjustable.  There are aftermarket adjustable roller rocker shafts available these days but you would have to get the instructions from the manufacturer.  If you have a stocker just torque it down correctly and forget it. It's good to go.
Actually, duh, the adjustables will have an adjusting nut on top of the rocker above the pushrod.

Re: 65 200 6 cylinder Valve Adjustment

Great, thanks for all the responses.  Looks like I'm good to go, just wasn't sure.  Got the engine all buttoned up, now just have to finish rebuilding the C-4.  I broke a seal ring (of course) on the output shaft during dissasembly, so now I have to wait for the part to show up.  I guess this will give me time to get in the engine bay and scrub it down and spray it with some flat black...  It never stops, does it?  haha
