Fox body seat latch.

Redoing Fox seats for my 66. The latch mechanism on the back of the that let's the seat lean forward, is not working properly. When you lift the latch to tilt the seat forward and let someone in the back, it doesn't latch the seat when you tilt it back. Seems to be missing a spring or something. I was just wondering if some has any experience with these seats, maybe a diagram or something. It's such a small problem but both sides are doing the same so I have nothing to compair it to. If any one knows who sells parts for these, that could help. I looked on the internet and found 2 you tube videos on how the change the little plastic cover on the back of the seat. Do you really need a video to learn how to remove 2 screws.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Re: Fox body seat latch.

Very interested in this thread.  The fox seats I have do not latch either.  The mechanism seems like its all there, Thats the way they were when I got them.   I noticed on T's seats that his latched.    It made me wonder if there were some models that the latching mechanism is purposely made non-functional.

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

Re: Fox body seat latch.

Same thing with mine. It looks like it supposed to rely on gravity. I ended up drilling a hole and installing a spring from the hardware store. It was tricky but it worked. I don't think I have any pictures. Also I bought a different set later on that were in better shape and the latches on that set work. I don't have them apart to see if something is different.

Re: Fox body seat latch.

The Fox seats I have for my 65 do the same thing........when I get really motivated, I think I'm going to apply GP 350's fix....

Re: Fox body seat latch.

Just thinking stupid here but there have been a couple of times when I wanted to fold the seatback forward on our coupe (89 Fox seats) and I can't recall exactly how it behaved but I remember that it works just fine after I remember that the release lever is a little affair on the back of the seatback and not the recline adjust lever at the hinge.  Just sort of thinkin' out loud here.
