Heat shrink tip

Harbor Freight carries some great heat shrink in a nice multi pack. I purchased the stuff labeled for marine. What I like about it is that it has some kind of glue that melts and totally seals the ends against moisture.to keep this post Mustang related, I have been using it to rewire my 65 fastback.

Re: Heat shrink tip

Good tip.  Let's move this to the TIPS and HOW TO section.  Will move it in a couple of days.  Since there are alot fewer tips than there are tech posts, the tips there stay  easier to find.  Same with the braided hose cutting tip.  I will move both before they get too far down.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: Heat shrink tip

Lowes carries a nice selection of heat shrink too.  They offer it sized in 1/16" increments instead of the normal red, blue, yellow, and freaking huge sizes tha auto parts chains sell.  I've found it good for stuff other than electrical too.  Need to make an insulated bracket, or mimic a coated hook?  Works great for that.  You can shink it onto flat metal stock too, not just round stuff.  If the part is curved it will kink, but once you apply heat it smooths right out and looks like a factory made part.  I used this technique for some J-hooks I made to properly route my wiring and AC stuff on my '67.  The parts I needed are not reproduced or easily found elsewhere so I just fabbed them up.
