I want to cut down the seat pan in my 1966 convertable. How much can I lower the seat pan and still be structurally safe? I have '89 Mustang GT seats installed and I'm having trouble getting under the wheel. Also, will frame rail connectors with the 'ladder' type connectors to the outer frame rails help?
Some of you Structural Gurus out there help me out! Thanks, Larry

First guy has a track car and removed 1-1/2". The seat riser mod is towards the end after the inner rocker install.
This guy removed one inch, which would be the most I would remove. 1" lower is the height of coupe and FBI one piece seat risers.
Since the conv seat riser serves a purpose, and not just add add'l support for a coupe or FBI, if I were you I'd find better fitting seats.
Remember, the lower the seat sits the narrower the space you get for the seat to fit. The inner seat belt bolt gets real close to the seat when you lower it one inch to the FB height.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
