I bought MS's brake booster and modified pedals back in 2004, I just never got around to installing it. I'm making a special effort to drive my Mustang this Fall. In reading the instructions it does not mention any bracket between the booster and firewall and since the diagram says to drill a hole in a dimple underneath the booster, I'm wondering what that hole is for since the booster does not have a stud in the bottom position. I found this bracket in searching the net. Do I need it?

That should be included with booster. It was on the kit I bought from Steve and is installed in mine.

I thought that was probably the case. I have moved since I purchased the booster so I may or may not have it. I'll look a few more days before I spring for another one. Thanks

What year is your car and what kit did you buy? The boosters I sell for 67-70 Mustangs have the plate like that attached to the booster before I ship it. The 65/66 version does not use that plate at all.

I have a 67 Mustang Conv. I don't think I bought the booster in a kit. This was in 2004 that I sent my clutch pedal and pedal bracket to be modified for clutch cable and bearings. At that time I talked to you about installing a booster and purchased it, when everything arrived I put it on the shelf in the shop until I had time to install it. Thats where it has been the last 11 years.

If using Bendix booster, you need the plate. The Midland booster (clamp band type) would be the correct booster for your car, although I prefer the bendix for functionality.

I'll be using the Bendix booster.

OK I got the plate that goes between the Bendix booster and firewall (67 thru 72 Mustang) but the booster studs do not line up with the plate holes. The drivers side lower hole is at least an inch lower than the plate hole, then there is no bottom stud on the booster for the hole that has to be drilled in the dimple as per the instructions. In the picture notice only four studs on the booster. Can anybody identify what I have or tell me what I need to install this booster. Thanks

Anyone?

That's a fox body mustang booster. Those boosters have that offset mounting pattern. What years the car and what modifications have you all done so we can do our best job in guiding you in the direction that you need to be in.

OK, I have a 67 Mustang that was originally a 6 cyl. I've installed a 5 lug 8inch rear out of a early 70's Comet. Installed Granada disc brakes, rebuilt the front suspension. I am installing a 302/T5 out of an 87 Mustang. In 2004 I purchased the clutch pedal parts to convert it to fox cable then I decided I wanted PB so I talked to MS and sent all the parts back along with my pedals and hanger to be modified and at that time I purchased the booster from MS. When every thing arrived I put it on the shelf in my shop and the car was put on the back burner. Now I want to drive it so I'm trying to figure out what I have and what I need to complete the brakes. If I remember correctly MS said the modified booster was from a Fairmont. If you need any more info, just ask. Thanks

Do you have a picture of the modified pedal hanger that we could see please and thank you? If it has the correct mounting for that booster then all that will be needed to do is simple the larger hole where the master cylinder Rod went threw will need to be enlarged so the booster rod will go threw the firewall. Then if I remember correctly Youll need to drill two more holes to be able to mount the pedal hanger assembly.
On another note the old original spindles that you had are actually the same thing as a v8 spindle all that's different is that it has a four lug hub on it instead of a five lug hub. If you wanted to use MS brake kits for front discs instead of the Granada brakes you could do so just by sourcing some new v8 hubs that are easy to come by.

I'll post a picture this afternoon, I have a dental appointment in an hour. I know that the pedal hanger has the same pattern since I have put the two together on the workbench. Do I need any kind of plate to install them? Thanks

No you don't need anything else. Just a drill bit to make those new holes in the firewall and for the big hole for the rod. I used my 3" cut off wheel with out the guard and was able to cut a perfect hole in the firewall. Just make sure you use the templet print out that steve sends you when you use his booster. That templet will let you trace the nessisary holes that you will need to make to be able to install the booster.
Next if you haven't purchased them already you will need a proportioning valve and new dual bowl master cylinder some 3/16" brake line. If you use the copper nickle plated lines you can purchase a roll of it. That type of line straightens nicely. To be able to double flare the line a bench vise is important to have as well as your double flare bar. line cutter and reamer (a wood pilot hole bit works nice for this). If you have a regular flare bar for plumbing you can use it but you will need to purchase a double flare end that is seperate from the bar. Fed hill sells them and same with other places. I bought a cheap harbor freight double flare bar and used the double flare ends. With one of my ole USA made flare bars for plumbing and it works great. If you haven't made double flare brake ends before I'd get on YouTube and watch a couple vids. Hope this helps.

Below is a couple of pictures of the pedals and booster, seems ashamed to hide them under the dash. I don't think the diagram on this site will work, none of the holes line up with the exception of the upper drivers side that will be the only original hole. I'm going to make a templet off the pedal bracket using the upper drivers side as it is an original hole. Thanks for all the info/tips.

You are all set up for the booster to be installed except for drilling new holes and expanding the one main hole for the booster.

That is one of my very early setups where I was using the Fox booster on th 67-68 pedal assembly. The fox booster you have pictured will bolt right up without any spacer. The Fox v8 booster such as the one you have pictured is very similar to the 69 Bendix booster I use now, but with a different bolt pattern. Either of the two boosters in th pictures posted will fit with no spacer. Just use the template from the instructions to drill the firewall holes. DO NOT use the 67-69 template like on my FAQ page.
Be sure the large center hole in the firewall does not touch the sides of the booster bellows or it will make the booster not function correctly.
