ignition switch failure

I have a very unusual problem...I have a 67 coupe that is a V8 conversion. On 4 seperate occasions I have used a hand held remote starter switch ( you unplug the starter wire on solenoid and clip the one lead to the terminal that you just unplugged and the other to the pos. terminal on battery.I do whatever it is that I needed to do and take the remote switch off and plug the wire from the ign. switch back on to the terminal on the solenoid. Then I get in the car and the ign. switch doesnt work. When I check the switch there is no continuity between the batt.terminal and the sol. terminal.I replace the switch and everything works fine. This has happened all 4 times I used the remote switch.I checked the switch this time and got the same thing.Going after ign.switch #4 this weekend...Also, without the key being in the run position the engine will run as long as i'm holding the remote button in...Can anyone recommend a good exorsist...Or any other help will work too. Oh,by the way I've had this car for 2.5 years and have put less than 1 (thats right one) mile on it.HEP ME SOMEBODY HEP ME!!!!

Re: ignition switch failure

4 bad switches dont sound right. Have you ever ohm checked one of the ignition switches
after removing it from the car. You may have a bad wiring conection somewhere.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Re: ignition switch failure

Could it be if there is an internal ballast resistor in the switch, its getting cooked by leaving the switch in the run position, then using the remote switch and cooking it with 14 volts? Just throwing ideas out there, it has to be something related to using the remote switch.

Re: ignition switch failure

There may be a circuit breaker in the switch that trips to prevent damage from overheating.  I would let one of the switches sit for a while and retest continuity.  If continuity returns thats your issue.
