I'm in the market for another hvlp. I'm looking a low cfm consuming gun, but I don't want to spend a fortune. I Hurd good things about the Eastwood concours and the evolution does anyone here use these. Or another low consuming cfm hvlp? I also Hurd ok feedback on the tcpglobal guns. I'm going to be spraying some polyester primer and and sealer and be/cc

if you are planning on using one gun for all functions, look for one that comes with different sized tips. i started out years ago with a devilbiss finishline gun that had a 1.4 & 1.8 tip. you will need a larger tip for poly primer to spray it effectively than you will need for sealer & paint. for the poly & high build primers you will need something in the 1.8-2.0 range & epoxy, sealer, bc & cc something in the 1.3-1.4 range.

Hey Haaken, that is some shine on that rear end! What kind of paint did you use?
Sorry for the thread jack!
Keeping with the OP, I bought a Sears Craftsman spray gun 40 years ago with a bottom container and a single nozzle. I can't remember how many cars, trucks and numerous projects including two full sized aircraft I have painted wioth it over the years but it has served me very well. All that was done on a home made compressor made from a commercial freezer piston compressor and a two foot length of 16 inch pipe for a tank.

The primer and paint I've been using is actually boat products.
The two-part epoxy primer, very easy to work with, actually has no official info that it can be sprayed, but it worked just fine, also kind of high build and very easy to sand:
The top coat "Premium quality high-gloss durable yacht enamel":
Also used this "Matting Additive" mixed 50/50 with the Toplac to get the satin finish on the underside of the car:
Simple reason for using boat paint is that it's available in a local store (but not cheap) and I was also thinking that if the paint is supposed to protect a steel boat it will probably be good enough on the underside of my '67 Mustang.
Unfortunately none of the above seems to be available in the US. But I can recommend one of their other top coat products called "Brightside" that seems available in the US, have used that too with very good results:

To answer your question, I was curious about the Eastwood Concours gun also, so I bought one with a couple of the optional orfice sets. I have sprayed some epoxy primer, some two componant urethane top coat and some oil based tractor paint. Overall I have been pleasantly surprised by the finish generated by the gun. You have to do your part too, you have to know how to set the gun up and how to use it properly. Since Eastwood offers orifice sets from 1.2 to 2.0, you can spray anything from water based coatings to primer/surfacer. I also equipped my gun with the disposable Devilbis DeCups set since I hate to clean the gun cups. Eastwood puts the Concours gun and the orifice sets on sale pretty often, so watch for the sales and don't pay their regular price.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
