Speedo gear and cable

I have a 66 fastback and installed a t-5. What speedo cable and gear do I need?  I have 3:70 gears

Re: Speedo gear and cable

Here's a link to help calculate which gear you need for the cable.  Your C4 or 3 speed cable will work.  4 speed cable is a lot longer than you will need. Do you know which gear is in the T5?

Re: Speedo gear and cable

Typically, the T5Z comes with a yellow 7 tooth drive gear on the output shaft.  You can verify that by looking at the gear through the speedo cable hole in the trans.  If that is the case, and you have some Fox Mustang sized tires, most folks recommend the red 21 tooth driven gear on the end of the cable for 3.73 gears.  The link I posted earlier assumes you know the drive gear in the trans, and can accomodate for various tire sizes, in the event you don't have Fox sized tires.

Re: Speedo gear and cable

You need to know what size tires the car has to determine the correct speedo gear.  The trans (other than for the type of gear you need) doesn't matter.  Most places you buy the gears from can tell you what gear you need based on tire size, trans type, and rear gear ratio.
