Fuel tank pad

Hello and Happy Memorial Day!
i am interested in adding a pad to the top of my fuel tank to insulate from noise. I have a big sheet of the jute pad with the tar back, but think that will collect moisture and cause rust. What can I use as a lay down piece only, I do not want to stick anything down permanently.
Thanks!

Re: Fuel tank pad

I would use the piece of jute, but lay a piece of roofing felt over the tank first, and if you feel really energetic paint the top of the tank first....jj

Re: Fuel tank pad

The original pad was a tar-impregnated watchamacallit.  I saw them at CJPony the other day.

Re: Fuel tank pad

Mike, I have just the thing for the pad. I'm insulating the inside of my '66 fb and made a tank pad from insulating/sound dampening material used in high-end biz jets. It's a 1/16" layer of Isodamp sandwiched by 2 sheets of dense 1/4" Nomex.
Flame resistant, insulating, sound damping, and padding all in one. I plan to sell these as soon as I figure out how to cut the hole for the top of the tank. It's very tough and hard to cut, like Kevlar.
If interested, I can get some pics later for you.
