65 t5 and efi conversion

Hey guyz im in the process of changing to efi 302 and t5 to a manual 65 6cyl 3 spd car and I've removed everything from an 87 donor car.  I have already converted the car to everything necessary to support v8 components.  I've got a disc brake kit that has from discs with rear drums that included a master cylinder,  If I purchase the MS brake and clutch pedal kit for the t5 can the brake booster upgrade be easily installed using the master cyl. I have?  Its a doudle hump with the retainer clip.

I have all the accessories from the 87 gt and accessories from the 65 6cyl. Im not installing anything but an alternator. what would be recommended considering either serpentine or v-belt for ease on the wallet and installation?

In what research I've done I know I need a front sump oil pan, another oil pickup tube, possibly a gas pedal from a 70 stang, and a trans cross member. lmk if anyone here has these items.

Also my donor car although from the surface looked like a low mileage completely unmolested car had a 4 cyl. trans installed, I would like to beef it up or trade it towards a good v8 one. Any thoughts?

Thanks guys, I've also got the 87 gutted gt if anybody needs parts

Re: 65 t5 and efi conversion

Most likely the master cylinder will work.  Most are the same where they interface with a booster or the pedal rod.  The booster has a rod 1" long.  Fits same master cylinder as stock, and most that are supplied with aftermarket kits.

1" bore diameter is best to use with the power booster.  Some supplied with manual kits are 15/16" and they will work but you will have a longer pedal stroke than with the 1".  Will need more details as to "the master cylinder I have" before making a definitive response.

I have the trans crossmember.  Just email me.  I would be interested in that T5 from a 4 cylinder if it is in decent shape.  I have a six cylinder it could go behind.  Glen's 65 5.0 is your guy for a beefed up T5 trans.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: 65 t5 and efi conversion

The 4 cylinder trans doesn't really have gear ratios that would work well with a V8 anyway.

To improve strength in a T5 there's a lot of options.  G-Force makes several gear kits as well as stronger mainshafts and cases.  JTR has a cluster brace to replace the stamped factory piece.  A good shifter (I prefer Pro 5.0) is a must.

The thing is, how much beef do you really need?  What breaks transmissions is traction.  In a street car, especially one with a lot of power the tires are going to go up in smoke before you stress the trans enough to break it.  If you're planning to drag race it a lot 3rd gear can be a weakness, and in that case you should swap out the gears.

Re: 65 t5 and efi conversion

I have seen many T5 failures in fairly low powered applications and mostly because of wheel hop. Those inertia impact loads are tremendous.

Re: 65 t5 and efi conversion

Solid comments guys, I've decided on going with a stronger trans.  I could not imagine not driving the car as hard as I drive my heavily modified 88 gt 5spd.  I don't know the exact condition of my trans, the clutch was completely worn out on the car when I bought it so I was only able to shift into each gear w the engine off. I had to start it in gear w the clutch pushed in and turn the key on and off to load it on the trailer. I knew it was a gamble I just didn't expect to be a 4cyl. tranny.

How about the belt driven accessories? whats the easiest recommended route?
