see the shelby scoop seams??

Hi Guys,

I was doing some part wish listing last night and was looking at the side scoops for the 66 shelby mustangs.  My question is, when installed, say the bolt on style, can one remove them, then paint the car and the scoops seperately, then just bolt them on leaving the seams of the parts visable?  Or are they to be blended in?  I wasn't able to find a close up picture to see how they were done originally.

Anyone know for sure how it was done back in the day?  For those of you that have them, how did you do it?

Thanks
Richard.

Re: see the shelby scoop seams??

that is what I figured.  So I have to assum that they simply installed them.  Seams and all.  I figure if i get them for my car, i will get the set that can be bolted on, install them, then remove and paint.  Install.  Should be a nice look.

Re: see the shelby scoop seams??

for the hoods, were they originally a all fiberglass unit or were the original hoods hacked and the scoops bolted on?

Re: see the shelby scoop seams??

The hoods were all glass. Though prolly a heavier layup than now.
The best side scoops to get are sold by California Pony Cars. A bit more expensive than some of the others, however they fit, when most of the others require a lot of working on.
The ones I got did not require any more than a light sanding for the primer to stick to.
I drilled 4 holes around the scolloped area of the car, where the fiberglass scoops flange would fit. Then drilled matching holes in each scoop flange. Went to the local Ace hardware and bought 8 capture nuts, and epoxyed them into the flange. The scoops fit perfectly and can be removed when necessary.
Do use a bit of loc-tight during final assembly as road vibration can back the screws out.
