I have never shot any clear coat, but would like to give it a try in the future. Can anyone recommend the right gun tip size to use? Also I'd like to work with metalflake. What tip size for that? Thanks.

Base you usually want a 1.3 needle nozle set up for solvent borne and 1.4 for water borne the water borne is a lot thicker paint. For your clear you want a 1.4 for most all clears out there. I've only seen a few that say to use a 1.3. But it's also subject to your gun your using. For large metal flake you want a 2.0. For a really good clear I would use southern polyurethanes Universal Clear coat. All their products are top notch. The owner even gives you his number if you ever have any questions on his stuff.

Also your paints and primers etc will list which to use with the basic type of gun your using.

Thanks Yamaha, for the paint supplier info. They are pretty competitively priced. Have you ever used Rubberseal paint products? How do they compare to SPI?

I haven't tried those products yet. The spi epoxy by it's self Is awesome. It's claimed to be rated for use on frame rails and undercarriage. It's pretty strong stuff, so I'm sure if you used it some great seamsealer body filler and 2k primer as well you would have an awesome base.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
