OEM '65 Mustang Horns?

One of my two horns is kind of reluctant to honk and when it does it sounds like it has laryngitis.  I notice that there is a screw with a nut on it on the exterior of the horn.  Is there any kind of adjustment or tinkering that can be done with these?

I bead blasted mine after plugging the horn section to keep the blast media out. They say not to mess with the adjustment but I figured that they put those screws in there for a reason so I got both the high and the low working.
 Wear ear plugs when testing.

Yeah, I hear you on the ear plugs but my horns are riveted together. The screw that I was speaking of is the one that adjusts the gap in the points.  Of course you don't know what you are adjusting them to.

I understand that repro horns are screwed together.  I found a website that deals with horns.  I have an email out to them.  I'll see what they say.

boomyal - first, I believe the screw Rudi mentioned is the adjustment screw you refer to.  The Ford service manuals I have from 1961 indicate the current draw should be between 10-11 amps.  You could simply try adjusted them while blowing the horn until the sound is what appears to be correct.
Are you using a relay to activate the horns?  The OEM setup is for the horn button to carry all the current to the horns.  Even with new horns my horn button (original) wouldn't allow for full volume.  With the relay setup the horn button is carrying only milliamps and the relay contacts carry the full current to the horns, and they work just fine.
One check I suggest to try is to jump the +12v from the battery directly to the horn to see if the sound is OK.  If so, I suspect the horn button is the issue.  If not, play with the adjustment screw.

Sent mine to horn works. Horns are in tune with pitch repainted etc. Quite reasonable price. Oh and quite loud/improved!

Glad you reminded me about a horn relay.  Where did you grab the wire to the horns?  A couple of years back I relayed my headlights but didn't think the horn was necessary.  If I do send the horns out to be rebuilt, they will actually boost the output of them.  I think higher output would translate to more amps.  All the more reason to have them on a relay.  I will try the froggy one on battery direct 12 v.

good testimony MWM.  They quoted me 179 + shipping to go thru both my horns.  That is 3 times more that repro horns so I am not sure what I will do.

I mounted the relay horizontally in the upper right hand corner of the radiator support by the battery.  It fits nicely there, pretty much out of sight.  I spliced the wiring to the horns at existing juncture on the drivers side of the radiator.  I still suggest trying a jumper from the battery directly to the horns to check if you get full volume.  Depending on the results will guide you to the actions needing to take.
