WOW! Looks like this is "Disc Brake Monday"

Started the bleeding process today. Pass side rear wheel cylinder had to be replaced.
Moved to the fronts and driver side banjo bolt copper washer was leaking. Replaced it and STILL leaks! While changing out washers.....MC ran dry..
Does this mean I will need to bench bleed MC again?
Also....what about that copper washer that leaks........any ideas?!
Oh yeah...........I have ZERO...ZERO pedal!!
Having a nice day!

6S6 look for a possible cracked fitting...I would gravity bleed the system now...open them all up at once let em bleed ...may take a couple hours....don't need to bench bleed...keep the MS full....jj

Cracked fitting? You mean the fitting on the brake hose...or on the caliper. Both are new buttt...that doesn't necessarily mean anything!
Thanx

Re: WOW! Looks like this is "Disc Brake Monday"

How tight is the banjo bolt?  I have never seen one leak before.  Maybe you need to give your car some anti-bowtie-part rejection medicine.

Be sure the banjo bolt is not so long that it might be bottoming out in the hole before the head gets to where it can put some crush on the washers.

If the mc went dry, you need to bench bleed it.  You can do it on the car.

Bench bleeding in the car........just put the plugs in and pump the pedal? Guess I need a helper to watch for the bubbles to stop?
I'll check the length of the banjo bolt compared to the hole....didn't think of that.
Could try swapping sides to see if leak still persists!?
Thanx

I always bench bleed new master cylinders in the car.  Just run the lines into the master (like you would on the bench) and then pump it with slow strokes and do not go all the way to the floor.  Continue until you stop getting air bubbles.

Re: WOW! Looks like this is "Disc Brake Monday"

Little bit of an update.........got the leak stopped...I had the brake hose to the caliper...upside down! Looked closer and one side is kinda offst so it fits down a little closer. Tighened up some leakers and it looks like THAT is squared-away!
About the bench bleed. Someone explain to me.......why....if I keep the bowls FULL and open the bleeder valves why...the MC won't totally fill and all air will be gone?! What's the "mechanics behind bench bleeding?
Jus' wanna know...

Re: WOW! Looks like this is "Disc Brake Monday"

OPEN  all the bleeders...and be done in a couple hours, the bubbles and fluid will all come out of  the bleeders until you remove all the air and are streaming solid brake fluid... its too easy....jj

Re: WOW! Looks like this is "Disc Brake Monday"

What you're describing and what JerseyJoe is describing is gravity bleeding... not bench bleeding.
There's nothing wrong with gravity bleeding, I just make the distinction because you seem to be confusing the two.

Re: WOW! Looks like this is "Disc Brake Monday"

sal, just because there are no air bubbles in the MC bowl does not mean there are no air bubbles inside the cylinder of the MC.  There are two spaces in there, and you just have to keep circulating fluid to get the air out.  You MIGHT be OK to just go ahead and bleed the brakes.  Heck, learn the way I learned... Just DO IT, and if it doesn't work, figure out why and do it again.

Re: WOW! Looks like this is "Disc Brake Monday"

One more thang.......I removed the rear drum while replacing the wheel cylinder....do I need to replace the drum when bleeding to get a good pedal? I mean the brake shoes don't have anything to press on soooo, will THAT prevent a solid pedal when I DO bleed all the brakes again?
Thankeee,

Re: WOW! Looks like this is "Disc Brake Monday"

Sal, put the drums on before you press the brake pedal.  If you don't, and depending on what kind of brakes are on the rear, you could blow the piston(s) out of the wheel cylinders.  Then, you've really got a mess!  Plus, if the brake fluid sprays the brake shoe friction material, you'll have to replace the brake shoes.
Good Luck.
