My 66 coupe has a 5.0 engine with the E303 cam AOD trans with 3.80 diff. The Edelbrock 600 sits on Edelbrock air gap intake. Problem is eng. is prone to stalling almost like idle circut is too lean. The carb is a 1406 with stock jets, idle mixture screws are set for highest vacume 14 inches at 850 rpm. Timing is set at 12 degrees BTDC. Thanks for your help.

Does it "rattle"/spark knock when putting a load on the engine? Hard to start when engine is hot?
If not....add a few degrees more initial timing and see if that helps.

It does not have detonation, when I get to it I will try more initial timing. Thanks

If the idle screws are set to the highest vacuum, you may be right on the edge of stalling. Try adjusting the idle screws 1/2 turn to richer the mixture, take for a ride and see how it works. Adjust from there. Or you could try increasing the idle speed to 900 RPM, see how that works.
Should have asked this first ... does this happen w/the engine at normal operating temperature?

Thanks BobE the engine will stall both cold and hot. Cold idle is set at about 1200 RPM. I have not worked on it in a while but I think I will take 6Sally6 advice and give it more initial advance.

I reset initial timing at 17 degrees BTDC and adjusted idle mixture screws. Engine idles at 15 inches of vacume at 850 RPM. and no longer stalls.

Did you figure out your problem yet? I know that if the car has a cam and you use an edelbrock you have to usually change the metering rods or the car can sometimes die. Edelbrock also talks about this in the manual.

I have it where it no longer stalls. I do know it is running rich, I think I will buy a calibration kit and attempt to improve it even more.
