Hey Glens 1965 50 and other friends of superchargers

I am assuming you have power brakes.  Do you have an aux vacuum pump or vac reservoir to assist the braking for your s/c equipped engine?  I don't want to mess with hydroboost, and there are space challenges under the hood.

Actually, when I had the supercharger on the car I had an electric vacuum pump with a reservoir on it. It worked fine. Pump had rubber mounts so I could not hear it run at all.

Re: Hey Glens 1965 50 and other friends of superchargers

I do have a aux. pump now but on my new build I should not need it with a blower cam.  I "should" have enough vacuum at idle. My vacuum pump is the older version from Master Power brakes and it is a little noisy for my taste.

I should have added that since my car just has straight pipes, I can't here anything but the 331's sweet music.

Re: Hey Glens 1965 50 and other friends of superchargers

My last car had a supercharger on it and a radical engine. I only made about 11 inches of vacuum at idle and the brakes worked just fine. There were a few situations in traffic where I would run out of vacuum for soft brakes, but it was never as hard as the manual brakes our cars came with. While driving around it was fine, just make sure you have a good check valve and small reservoir and it will be just like (intended?) stock.

Re: Hey Glens 1965 50 and other friends of superchargers

Thanks, all.

DC, I'm still laughing.  I need to invite myself to your shop, someday.  Grandkids with go karts, superchargers and straight pipes.  Sounds like heaven on earth!

My son and I are putting a basicly stock 2003 Cobra supercharged 4.6 in the 66 coupe, and have plans to autocross it a bit, and want adequate brakes, so were trying to determine would we be ok with just the booster, or would we need an aux tank, or would we also need an aux pump.  I suppose we want overkill, when it comes to brakes.....
