Looking for recommendation on rear leaf springs. My stock originals are sagging really low, especially now that the battery is in the trunk, causing some rubbing in some corners and when the kids are in the back seat.
4 leaf
4 1/2 leaf
5 leaf
std, mid, reverse eye
'66 coupe, 225x40x17 tires & wheels if that has bearing on the recommendation.
Car is a road driver only, Only racing is between stop lights and back roads. Has EFI 5.0 & T5 up front w/ a 9" rear. Don't remember my shocks, but I can crawl under the car if that changes the recommendation. I assume it doesn't, since the spring will mostly control the ride height.
Thanks

I have Grab a Trac 4 1/2 on my 66 with elcheapo Monroe shocks. I like the ride. I had to add 1" lowering blocks to get the stance I want so I probably would go with reverse eye if I were to do it over.

4 1/2 with a standard eye placement may give it a "cool" rake...If you're into that look!

I love mine. 4-1/2 leaf reverse eye with a 1/2" lowering block. From Mustangs Unlimited.
Only bad thing is the front eye polyurethane bushings that squeak a bit.
Be sure to check out the RIDE HEIGHT PAGE for more pictures and descriptions.

Yeah, I'm planning to swap my poly bushings for Del-A-Lum bushings at some point. The squeaking is super annoying.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I had checked out the ride height page in the past, but it's been a while. I was concerned about going too low with the reverse eye, but it sounds like that's the right pick for me and I wasn't sure if I should go 5 leaf, since I have the battery in the trunk and the kids will ride in the back seat fairly often.

Global West negative roll front 1-1/4" drop and matching rear leaf springs with Del-a-Lum bushings. Not a peep out of the suspension; very quiet.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
