Tire rub........

Hey guys and gals!! I haven't posted in a long time!! Hope everyone is doing great.  Last October I got some new wheels and tires for the stang.  Got some Torq Trust II wheels.  Fronts are 17x7 4inch BS with 215/45ZR17.  Rears are 17x8 4.75inch BS with 245/45ZR17  I have  a 1966 Fastback.  All suspension is 3 years old.  I am getting tire rub out of my rear when I hit certain bumps.  Any help or suggestions?  Rear springs are 4.5 leaf mid-eye springs.

Re: Tire rub........

I have an Explorer 8.8 rear axle which is right at 1/2" narrower than the stock 66.  Also have 17X7 with 4.25 BS  and I was having some inside rub at the rear on driveway approaches.  Discovered that the bottom edge of the inner wheel house is rolled to the outside and was just kissing the tire sidewall.  A little work with the pliers seems to have cured that.  You may want to take a look.

Re: Tire rub........

On my 66 fastback, I used the percussion engineering tools as my choice of a "fixer" to lay down that pesky flange.

Re: Tire rub........

Eastwood sells a tool to roll the lip. They say it isn't for the double metal area like our rear fenders, but I got it to work. Slow and heat the paint up to keep from cracking.

Re: Tire rub........

I saw a video clip using a baseball bat to roll the inner fender lip. They put the bat between the lip and the tire, jacked up the wheel to close the gap and rolled the bat around the tire. . A heat gun was also used to soften the paint.
