Going to look at a 1960 Ford F-100 on Thursday. Body looks good from the pics. He has the following items that haven't been installed. Was asking yalls thoughts on the project, meaning will these parts work on this truck. Im also doing some research today. Parts he has to install:
06 Crown Vic IFS
00 Explorer 8.8 with 3.73 gears and disk brakes ( although he listed the truck having a 9in with 3.70 gears)
Engine wise, he has a 5.0 short block from an 87 mustang with a T5 (im going to rebuild all that anyways)
The truck currently has a 223 I6 with 3 speed on the tree. And for $1500 for everything the guys owns, price is pretty good. Mainly just wanting advise on the Crown Vic swaps on these trucks. Ive always wanted to rebuild an old truck. Really ready to have another project!! Thanks for yalls input on this matter. I know its not mustang related, but yall are always my go to on tech questions.

Sounds like a good catch.
I wish I could find an early Bronco deal like that.

Ya Rudi, it does sound like a good catch. Can't wait to go look at it and see it in person. Always tells a different story.

That Crown Vic swap is pretty common I think. My concern would be most the quality of the work. Not that a hobbyist couldn't do it with patience and the right skills, but I think I'd ask him how he trued everything in the chassis and see if it sounds credible.
Deal wise it sounds pretty good. The 5.0 engine and trans is probably worth $500-$600 with the harness and computer. The trans is the World Class T5, which is good, but the engine is SD, not mass air. It can be converted, and I certainly would, but it adds a bit of cost.
Rudi, I've got a '67 Bronco that needs a lot of work, but I have most of the parts. With other projects and family changes looming I don't know that I'm going to get to it anytime soon. Any interest?

Thanks TKO. The engine is just a short block. I'll probably swap that to a carb. He has an Edlebrock intake and a carb as parts. Those are included. As far as the swap, that would be on me. It's an unmolested frame. The truck currently has the 6cyc and 3 speed in it. He has the parts, but not installed.

I just completed a CV front suspension install in a 54 F100. Worked out really well. 302 with C-6 tranny, used oil pan from mid 90's F-150 5.0. It is no big deal to install one and they are very forgiving. I also used serpentine belt system with radiator, shroud and fan from 89 Lincoln MK VII LSC.
The wiring was NOT done by me...

MS...that looks beautiful!!!! I was gonna pick your brain when it comes time for brakes. I see that booster and master cylinder. What's the info on that set up?

Still a good price. The E7TE heads that the '87 5.0 would have had are a dime a dozen and not that great anyway. I'd drop a set of Edlebrock heads on it and stab a decent cam in it (I have a Ford Motorsports B cam I'd sell you cheap if you're interested) and it should make 325HP or so.

This is a 76 I just did with the Crown Vic. It has a 302 and aod.. The red and white 68 is my daily driver that has the Crown Vic front suspension and CV rear end on top of the springs. It has a 5.0 EFI with aode. The way they drive definitely make it worth the work.

I really like the 68! Well done.

Booster and master cyl are 2007 Mustang. Since original pedals go through the floor, I had to design/build a custom pedal support. I used a modified 68 Mustang power brake pedal. I have a full day's work in the pedal and support, so might be able to help shorten that up for you. In 65, they went to firewall mounted pedals and my PB-2 and 65 booster fit them perfectly. Or. an retrofit later truck stuff. I do not like the early factory booster setups.

Very nice! I'm working on fixing up a '68 F100 at the moment too...
But I've got to ask... what is this??? (circled in blue)

It's an old horn that was on a 33 or 34 Ford that I found in the woods. Cleaned it up and it worked.
Offline
Cool old truck!
On the horn........since it was a 6 volt system horn you may need to just "toot it" so you don't burn it out.
Flip side is........they are REALLY LOUD because twice the voltage going thru I guess?!
My youngster just picked up a pretty nice (original) 72 F-250! We made a couple of "cruise-arounds" while we went to visit them. Got that "old-truck" smell too!!
He sez he drives it around Hoyie-tee-toyie-tee Gig Harbor just to drive the Northwest-dope-smok'in-sandal-wearing-tree-hugger-save-our-atmosphere- 60's-hippie-types crazy!!
Gotta love that boys "tude"!!
Not sure where he got it from?!

MUSTANGSTEVE WHY DID YOU NOT GO WITH 5 SPEED OR AOD? FOR THOSE LONG TRIPS...WHAT GEARS YOU GONNA RUN IN REAR???
Offline
The 54 has a good C-6. We discussed AOD, but since it will be used locally 90% of the time, decided to save the money and just use the C-6.
Rear is a 2004 Crown Vic 2.73:1 with discs. Should cruise the highway just fine. And owner is not concerned how fast it will accelerate.

O OK...WAS THINKING IT WAS YOUR TRUCK.

Oh? Was the surgery successful? It might still be reversible...

Are you using a quarterhorse chip?

No just the 95 Mustang harness and ecu modified by a gentleman in Nevada City, California. I was fortunate in that I was able to use the Mustang's 2 speed fan, cold air system, trans crossmember, and actually the complete exhaust just modded the tail pipes. The gentleman that modified the harness made it very easy to integrate into the factory 68 harness.

I'm sure you are just kidding, but not every vehicle is a race car. This truck is built to be a driver, with a 5.0 V8 and 600CFM 4 bbl carb and shorty headers, it should perform quite well even with the 2.73 rear gear. It will sound great, pull strong, not overheat, shift by itself with the A/C blowing cold and will stop quite well. That is exactly what the customer wanted. Dependable, reasonable performance.

Bambam, those are some really nice trucks you have. Great job!

Sal that is my post with the red truck. Actually taken right down the road from you at my house in Myrtle Beach.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
