My Alignment pins are spotty in their fitting in the flywheel, are they 100% necessary, or is it safe to leave them off?

I would suspect that Ross means some they don't fit tight in all the flywheel holes. If thats the case they can be tightened by laying them in a "V"...like in the opening of a vice with the jaws just barely open...and giving them a little center punch treatment in a couple of places. That should raise enough metal to tighten them up.

If they fit loose, a little red Loctite will take care of that. They have a shoulder so the pressure plate holds them in the hole. Try Bullet's fix. A little metal tweaking with a hammer involved is ALWAYS a good thing, in my opinion.

Hey guys I actually meant the opposite, they were VERY tight in the flywheel but I got em in with a bit of force, however one of the holes on the pressure plate was trippin me up. 2 holes on the pressure plate would accept the pins properly, while one of the was unnaturally tight. I forced that in too. I guess it was just uneven machining? thanks for looking at the question though.

Ross, putting them in a freezer will shrink them some...then quickly install them .....jj

More likely uneven hammering than uneven machining!
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
