Going to do the 13.2" brakes from a 2013 on my 66. The instructions with the kit says 17's may fit but 18's will for sure. I'm wanting to do the machined coys c-67 wheels in 17". I guess my question is if anyone is running the bigger brakes and 17" wheels? Or are the 18's okay without rolling the fenders?

I'm running 13.2" brake set up with a wheel called a retro. They are available from a seller on ebay. They come in chrome, polished alluminum and gray. The wheels are similar to the bullitt wheels found on Bullitt,GT, and Cobra mustangs. Discount tire sells two different wheels that fit the 13.2 brake set up. They are a Bullitt look alike and a wheel called old school. There's a guy I don't recall his name but he runs old school wheels on his 1967 fast back. He goes by Dodgerstang. I laid my 13.2 brake set up on the back side of a 15" wheel knowing it wouldn't fit. I then measured how much bigger wheel would have to be to allow brake clearance. I don't recall how much clearance I have with my brakes. But they easily fit the 13.2 brake set up. Hopefully this helps. On my car I'm running a 235/45/17 on the front and a 245/45/17 in the rear. I went with a staggered wheel set up. 17x7 and 17x8. I don't recall the retro wheel back space. I think their a 4.25 front and a 4.5 for the rear I could be wrong though. I hope this helps.

Definitely helps. Sounds like I need to get a measurement for those wheels. Think I'll email them and see what I can come up with. Did you have to roll the fenders or did they clear okay as is?

They clear perfectly with out any rolling of the fenders at all. Im running edelbrock eibach shocks 1" drop coils and 1" drop bushings. I really want it lower it sits to high up front personally. The rear has shackles on it. I haven't measured them to know how long they are, but I really like the way it sits though. It really depends on each car. Some cars can clear those tires, and some can't. My neighbor is a mechanic and perfeshional racer. He's working on a guys 65 fastback with a 408 in it. He actually had to roll the front fenders to be able to clear a 235/45r/17 tire. But then again I don't know the back spacing of the wheels that the owner purchased. The car isnt running a shelby drop and still sits lower than my car. That same car is getting away with running a 245/55r/17 in the rear on a 17" wheel and it didn't need the rear lips to be flared.

Well, Coys say they aren't making the C67 right now so that's out. The Retro wheels are an option. Any others running the 13.2 brakes with other 17 inch wheel options?

A common misconception is that a 18" wheel and tire take up more room in the wheelwell than a 17" wheel and tire.
The overall diameter will remain the same, and the width will remain the same.
The tire just has a bigger hole in the middle of it for an 18" wheel. And the tire sidewall has 1/2" less height than a 17" tire of same overall diameter.
From my experience it is a lot easier to fit a 17" tire and wheel of a given width on the car than it is to put a 15" wheel of same width and backspacing. The 17" tire has less sidewall bulge so it clears better. (just an example)

You think a set off a 2001 Bullitt would fit? They are 17", I found a set for $500.00 and they look to be pretty nice. wheels and tires. Seems like an okay deal
Offline
Not in front without rubbing. 1" spacer required in front.
Offline
but they will clear the brakes and I could have them narrowed if push came to shove? If I can find a place that does that around here

I have that same wheel on my 66 but to avoid using the 1" spacer I had the wheels narrowed.

If you narrow the Bullits, you will need to use the hollow-backed 2005 or newer center caps or they won't clear the little bearing cap on your hub. MustangSteve has adapters that press into the 94-04 wheels so you can run the 2005+ center caps.

Right on. I think thats the ticket. I'm searching out a place around here that narrows the wheels. Think I found one but waiting to hear back from them. Although looking at some aftermarket wheels today it looks to be less $ or at least the same just to buy a set with the right backspace set up and width. OEM wheels would be cool though.

New wheel question. Taking a liking to the American Racing Torq Thrusts and they look to be pretty inexpensive. Should look good with the Litium Gray paint I'm doing on the car. I see that they have a bunch of different models. I like the originals the best, but which would fit with the 13.2 GT brakes you think?

I have the Anthracite Bullitt Wheels in a 17 X 8 on my 70 FB , I think they are supposed to fit 2010 to 2014 Mustangs, I got them from American Muscle, I do have to run a 1 inch spacer in order to clear, the 13.2 in brakes fit nicely inside of them.

I have an MS Cobra conversion on the front of my 65. I did roll the fenders and when I installed the front fenders, I tweaked (pulled like heck) the fender lip out as I tightened the various fender fasteners. That gave me another almost inch of clearance in just the right spot to clear the 255's I run on the car. I did make custom spacers to position the wheels just right too.

I was hoping not to run spacers but looks to be unavoidable. Bummer. I called/emailed a couple of local places here to see if they narrowed wheels but no luck. There's a couple of sets of bullitt wheels on KSL, the biggest classifieds thing in the area(Craigslist doesn't have the traction in this state for some reason) ranging from 300 ish to 500.00. If I have to do the spacers I might just grab a set of those for the time being. Till I can get some other info on other options.

carguytroy,
I had Weldcraft in Livoinia, Mi narrow my bullet wheels to a 7" width....I'm running cobra discs up front....
They did an ouitstanding job but, you're looking at "to and from" shipping costs plus the cost to narrow.
I can't recall what they charged me but, google them and I believe you can get a quote on their website.
There's at least one option for you should you decide to go this route.
As for me, would I do this again..........probably but, more likely I'd just buy aftermarket bullet wheels and call it a day.....

Would you think these would be a possibility?3kAAOSw~y9ZDdmi&vxp=mtr
4.26 backspace, -6 offset

Those are good looking wheels! Usually the 8" wide wheels will not fit the front of the 65-66's. I have a set of 17's with the same backspacing on my 66 and I had to roll the fender lips. Those 8"ers would stick out another inch.
Offline
Take a look at the U.S. Wheels "Rambler" similar in design except coated center with polished lip
Offline
I was thinking 7 wide in the front and 8 in the back. Not sure if they will clear the calipers though. It's looking like I will have to roll the fender lips anyway although I really don't want to.

The backspacing is juet wrong on those wheels. They need more backspacing.

Back on the wheel hunt again. Got sidetracked a bit. Had to put a roof on the house. How bout 2003-2004 Cobra wheels? Just looking for something to push the car around on while I decide on a final set up at this point.

I have MS's 13.2" kit on my 65 and am running 17" wheels:

Late model cobra 1994-2004 8" x 17" wheels have 5.72" backspacing and will require a 1" spacer in order to clear the upper control arm (nothing to do with brakes).
With that spacer, you are guaranteed tire rub with normal or lowered ride height.
