This rear Cobra brake hose is shown on Steve's 13" Cobra conversion page. Does anyone, maybe Steve, know the brand, part number, where it can be purchased? Thanks.

Id go to a local hydraulic shop. They can make you one in no time..

I'm betting it was made. Maximum Motorsports may have something that you could use, but that's pure speculation. They make hose to adapt SN95 brakes to Fox cars that could probably be made to work.

These guys will have it... Or Russell or maybe even Earls...

I bought my hose kit from Summit. # SPH-950-61501. $69.97, comes both sides with everything needed.
Overall hose length is 12"
Banjo bolt is 10mm dia. X 1.0 thread
Flair is 10MM bubble flair

Thanks guys, and for the fitting sizes George! Why do I expect these ads to list the fitting thread sizes and hose length? Hundreds of words in their ad but no real helpful info other than the vehicle they fit.

I've had great luck with Classic Tube in NY. I give them the specs as to what fitting to have on each end and the total length, and they send me the proper part. Properly done. And it only takes a few days. Price is close to off the shelf items.

Bob, I plumbed my F&R Cobra brakes last August and found my rear calipers had 10 X 1.5 banjo bolts. I'm not disputing George, just pointing out that your calipers may vary. It took me countless trips to finally get all those little parts right.
Take the calipers to the parts store to verify banjo bolt size.

Thanks Tim. Anymore I try to remember to take any parts into the store to match up. It skipped my mind that my digital measuring caliper has a metric function which showed my banjo bolts are 1.5 pitch.

Sorry my bad. They are 1.5 thread 10 mm dia.

De nada mi amigo. Thanks for responding. If there hadn't been a question on the thread pitch I'd have not looked into the 1.0 vs 1.5 meaning. And I still don't care for the wonderful metric system.
Central Cali? Where abouts you live George?

Heck I always considered Stockton was NorCal seeing as you're just a tad north of San Francisco. I've got a good bud who lives in Modesto, we'll have to meet up when I drive the Mustang up there. Thanks again for your help.

A bit of an update and semi conclusion. The rear discs I replaced are from an '80 El Dorado which I found would be an easy swap back in the 90's. But as most folks now know if the parking break isn't used often enough the pads don't stay adjusted resulting in lack of rear brakes. Since I hadn't fitted the parking cable yet I decided to swap in the Cobra disc assembly I stole for the $80 asking price. Didn't even try to negotiate a better price.
After all the much appreciated advice given here, I ended up getting the plain rubber stock replacement hoses for the 94-98 Cobra. Both threaded fittings of the new hoses match the hard brake line and the caliper threads. But I couldn't get the fitting between the hard line and flex hose to sit flush with the mounting bracket. Oy! The Eldo frame mounting bracket I.D. shape is different than the Ford hex shape.
Then I wonder if the Eldo flex hose that I originally was using will bolt up to the Cobra caliper. I know the Cobra banjo is metric and I'm remembering that the Eldo banjo is metric. And then I recall that this style of GM caliper is referred to as a metric caliper. DOH! Oh ya, my existing flex line screws together and works just fine.
I do believe karma struck me, a guy who bleeds Ford blue, because I was foolish enough to put GM parts on a Mustang. Lesson learned. I'll be going to confession this week.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
