Found out why the Galaxie was such a vaunted performer

NOT!     when I was under it inspecting the rear axle a whiles back, I saw the numbers   2  and 5 and just assumed it had a 3.25 in it.

Now that its up on jackstands tore to pieces, I was looking at it really close and brushed off the tag.

Thats 2.50

Explains why it was such a b***** to get moving and all............

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

Re: Found out why the Galaxie was such a vaunted performer

That's a bummer to discover. But carbs were big and gas was cheap so they thought they'd make it comfy for you to float down the ole road.
As a teenager I was really interested in fixing up on my dad's 1970 CJ5. V6 and a 3 speed.  I found out why he never drove it at freeway speeds. The rear had 5.89 gears and the front had 5.88's!! It could go anywhere off road but took a looooong time to get there.

'66 Fastback since July 27, 1981. Springtime Yellow, originally a 200 cu in, 4 speed. Also a '92 LX Coupe, 5.0, 5 speed.

Float is right for some of the old Galaxies. Buddy had a 65 with the 352 in it and it had a good bit of power, but high rear gear and everything set up to float down the farm roads.  I think it was also like 17 turns to go from lock to lock on the steering.

Loved that car.
