I think I wanna atemp to make some custom door panels in my 65 mustang coupe for fun. I think it would look cool to make mine similar to a pony and a 90s mustang.

So ill use a similar 90s mustang arm rest and then incorporate them in to a similar pony door panel and will end up with a more restro mod look

Rough drawing of what I'd like it to be so 90s handle arm rest with pony boarder. Middle is stainless steel and black is my black carbon fiber upholstery I did on the rest of the interior

That's a great idea. I hope those nice seats you put in won't be too wide and hit the arm rests. Please post pics of progress!

Glen did that in his 65, and I did it in Cara's 65 coupe. It is a great way to add power window switches and cover up the old door crank holes at the same time. It is pretty much a bolt-on deal.

I like it. Thanks steve for the pic i figured someone had to have done this even though I couldn't find anything. Anyone else here do some custom door panels? So I can get some ideas first

That would be more cool with pony panels, but I don't see how they could fit on something other than a flat panel, unless you are going to sculpt everything and reupholster them. Let us see them when you get there. A new idea comes along every day!
I am putting pony door panels in my 66 F-100, but cutting them vertically right aft of the window crank, then grafting on sheetmetal from Mustang door interiors so they blend into the doors.

Here are the pony panels I made for my car

And a few more...

Those pony panels look mean great job I was thinking of doing something like that only use brushed stainless on the whole center portion. Then some how mount a newer style door pull to them. And yes they'd be custom skullped
Offline
I might just go mess around with a wood lathe and skullped some similar things to fox body arm/pulls. And then custom shapeing them to a similar pony panel or something my own

As of right now I'm in between the two

On a Danish '67 coupe. Not very tasteful IMO, but anyway:

Those look great. Tell us how you did it?

Methinks the whole thing is a little obscene, but that door handle... yeesh.

I made mine by butchering a brand new set of pony door panels! My power window switches are in my console so I wanted to do something with the window crank hole and I wanted something different. I have a red/black/aluminum/chrome theme in my interior, so I decided an aluminum panel in the door should look good. I made the aluminum panel, then cut the shape of it out of the pony door panel, down to the backing board, cleaned all the foam out, stapled the leading edge of the red vinyl down. To secure the aluminum, I used the Mustang emblem and some 3M double faced tape. I then bought a roll of chrome edging and made the chrome strip. Pretty simple really.

I'm going to the wrecking yard tomorrow hopefully tomorrow. I checked online inventory said they had some 80s mustangs there so hopefully ill get the arm rests then go to homedepot and get some Masonite and then pull off my new old panel use for templet then hopefully the ideas start flowing

It's a nice look. I've always liked the '67/68 deluxe interiors with brushed panels. Are you using aluminum inserts for the dash panel & glove box? What's your plan for dealing with the fabric edge at the top front of the door panel? Roll it over and glue it down?

More custom interior ideas (from Craigslist of course):

Kristang--I love that look. Nice integration of the Pony interior and the 67 Deluxe interior. Too bad it requires the destruction of a second pair of Pony door panels.....but I can't say that I have not considered the same approach. It just seems like an expensive solution for the small amount of fabric used.

Well I went to the salvage yard today got some armrest from a 90 mustang and also a shame on me but a 91 camaro as well to see which one i like better both are very similar. I also grabbed a power window motor out of a 92 taurus for the custom power windows
