A couple more pix of the "Bird of Pray" project...

The Falcon only had a twelve gallon tank so we upgraded to a 20 gallon 69 Mustang unit. I used my "Gas Gauge Gage" to set up the new fuel sender and pickup to make all the fuel available and have the gauge read at the E mark when there were 2-3 gallons left..  Then I mounted it in an old cut-away tank to make sure everything is right.   I really like that little CARQUEST FS130 pick-up strainer adapted to the Mustang fuel pickup...it sets right down in the bottom of the tank like it should.

There's a lot going on in that little Falcon engine compartment but I think it's going to look ok.  We're very close to lighting it up.

The Falcon compartment is deep enough that we were able to use a real air cleaner above the battery...no trunk mounted batteries here.

Looks good.

What radiator, shroud and fan do you have in the Falcon?

The rad is a 20" that he got from Virgina Classic Mustangs, I think, and the shroud came from the same source but has been modified into a two-piece to facilitate installation and access.

He insisted on using all the stock Explorer front dress and fan on the engine.  I had a Mustang 5.0 setup I wanted to donate but he preferred the Exploder stuff.  It works.

Makes my engine compartment seem really roomy after looking at this thing. Nice work.

BB - very nice install, one question, will the shock tower braces be re-installed?

Oh yes, we are just not sure of what kind of magic we will do to make them do the job and clear everything.

Naw Steve, my friends are second owner of a Denver DSO 64 Futura Vert, 260, 4 speed, Rangoon Red.
The lady bought it new in Colo Springs when she was a brandy new skool teacher and brought it to Montrose when she got married.  It spent the rest of it's days here.  Always garaged, still has its original paint...nice car.  We are making it a great car with an EFI 5.0, five speed, 12.5" front discs, cable clutch, Vintage Air Gen IV HVAC.

You can see it  here on the street at Bash 13.

Re: A couple more pix of the "Bird of Pray" project...

Bob, I'm about to put a new fuel tank and sending unit in my car and I remembered you had a way to calibrate the sending unit to read more accurately. Can you educate me?

If you PM your email addy to me I'll send you a PDF that I put together (BB's Gas Gauge Gage) that includes a template to adjust your sender to bottom out at the two-gallon level.  It also has instructions to measure the resistance of the sender and adjust it so the gauge will indicate the exact bottom of the scale at the two-gallon level.
When I put it together I had a early Scott Drake sender with an adjustable arm and a fixed CVR.  I find now that the new senders may not have an adjustable arm and may not have enough resistor travel to allow the gauge to get down to the zero mark.  For the one I just did for the Falcon, I bent the arm to have the float at the two-gallon level when the resistor was bottomed.  Then I used an adjustable CVR to set the voltage (4.3v in this case) such that the gauge would be right at the zero mark.  At the full up position the gauge reads about 7/8 full...you can't have it both ways with the new repop crappo.

Hope this makes some sense.

BB

Re: A couple more pix of the "Bird of Pray" project...

Sorry about the "off topic" question but I have to ask about the "Bird of Pray" (versus "Prey")  Is there a story there?  :-)

Re: A couple more pix of the "Bird of Pray" project...

Gee John, Corky figured it out right away.  With all the modifications we are making and considering his wife will probably drive it more than him, it seemed to my friend to be an appropriate name for the project.

That's what I sorta kinda thunk the answer would be - much the same as the horse of pray" that many of us have.  :-)
