They look real nice Gaba. Na, you're not spoiled, just wise. I say that because I bought my lines from them also.

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

I know Y'all may have thought this day will never come.. honeslty I had my doubts!! LOL but! the AOD build is officially complete! its all ready to go in!

Got a new torque converter (refurb) from a local transmission shop... Mike's economy transmission here in Mckinney. The converter was 100 bucks, and much better to start fresh there than go with something I dont have any history on..

Noob moment: I had two converters that could be used as cores against this purchase.. but guess what.. in my infinte wisdom, I recycled both those converters, and ended up having to pay a core fee while buying the converter.. UGHH! (it was going to be 100 bucks!!!! JUST AS MUCH AS THE refurb converter) .. BUT! the shop had an old one to use for a core , that I paid 40 for, and total was 140.. So I lost 40 bucks just because I got rid of my cores! anyway .. live and learn here!

ALL the parts necessary for the install are sitting here.. now for another thing I have never done.. transmission R&R.. I am not going to lie.. I am nervous!

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

Congrats Gaba. Your trans install will go much easier with a trans jack. Well worth the $90 at HF, less with a coupon.

Once you get the trans bolted up to the motor, with the TC bolts thru the flex plate, make sure the TC has 1/16 - 3/16" play before you attach the 4 TC nuts.

I'm sure you're aware to fully install the TC onto the pump.  When fully installed, the snout should be behind the forward edge of the bellhousing.

Good luck brother.

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

South for a cable operated shifter, north for a rod.
Don't know bout the tv linkage.

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

Barry is correct. Both of mine are pointed up, as I used a shifter rod  with stock shifter, and the stock TV cable.

I'm not positive on the TV lever, but I believe it's up with stock cable and down with aftermarket, because the a-m cable comes in from the rear.

I read in the plethora of misinformation about AOD swaps online that there isn't enough room to have both the TV and shifter arms in the same direction, but mine fit w/o issue. Another bit of misinformation online is the shifter rod can't be flipped while the valve body is installed. I flipped mine with the trans and vb installed.

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

I think most would agree that it’s more challenging to rebuild a transmission than it is to remove and install one of them. You’ll be fine.

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

Thankfully VB didn’t have to be removed for the fix but I fixed that issue of orientation of shifter and TV linkage

Here it is all ready

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

Put that sucker in and drive it!

Have you given any thought to an inline trans fluid filter? I put one of these in, as the reviews were all good. "They" say they're good  cheap insurance after a rebuild.

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

Yes it will fit there, that's where I put mine. The body is just under 3" and total length with hose barbs is 5-1/4".

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

Hey Gaba, I don't know how tight it gets installing your AOD, but mine with headers is snug. To ease installation I trimmed the two side manufacturing set up tabs above the red dot in the pic. It made putting the trans up in the tunnel a straight shot with no interference. Thought I'd let ya know.

Can you post a pic of the trans on the other side of the engine stand?  Thanks.

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

Hey, does that transmission have a dipstick or is it a mutant...

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

It's got a dipstick. The insert boss is at 10 o'clock from the cooler line female port.

Yeah that’s the last part o don’t have

I am looking around for the right dip stick.. I have the dip stick tube , but not stick

Y’all know of where I can get one, not having to spend $45 for the whole tube and stick assembly?

Let me know

Re: Gaba’s AOD rebuild project

Gaba, do you have headers or manifolds? The stock  tube on mine wouldn't clear the headers. I thought of using the tube from the fmx, which fit the hole but didn't clear the headers either. If you swapped an auto, check the old tube for fit.

I have manifolds

While the tube may clear , but what about the dip stick depth. You don’t want it to be too short or too deep right?
