Question on headlight switch.

Has anyone here ever installed a later model ford light switch In their mustang before?  I'm  gathering parts for re Wiring my 65 coupe and id like to get a new headlight switch connector.  Since they reproduce the 80s ford truck light switch and connector I was thinking about re Wiring the pin out of the connector.

Re: Question on headlight switch.

Since you can get the new Mustang switch, I'm curious what advantage you see in a different light switch.

1968 T-code Coupe with a 302.  Nice car, no show stopper for sure, but I like it.

Re: Question on headlight switch.

I would guess that you could. I put a 80's F-150 wiper switch in my 70 Mustang but the kicker was you lose the washer feature. To get it back all I needed to do was repin it by changing the wires around to match the other plug. I would think all you need is matching plugs

Re: Question on headlight switch.

Sweet i didn't think it would matter. Ill do a write up later. I have my new wire all laid out for my the basic harness I plan on making.80% done. Now I'm debating on buss bars or which type of fuse block to go with. Universal, ford, Gm, or jeep. That's only for the updated ato/atc fuse block.

Fyi The connectors that I can't find are whiper motor 3 pin connector headlight switch connector, brake light switch connector,90 degree #10 stud connector.  As well as the dual contact light sockets. I plan on using after market lights for the dual contact and single contact lights. As for the connectors I'm just going to repin most my 65 for stuff. For the 90 degree connectors I plan on using crimp ring terminals.

Only advantage I see is if you ever needed a new connector it would be easier source. If you had to swap your stock switch connector youd have to cut and splice your harness with a section of a  harness. Or youd need a old stock connector to do the repair.

Makes sense I've read you can use that same switch in 67-79 f series trucks to upgrade to intermittent whipers. Ill have to look into that swap more and see if it does just need the pin out changed to gain washer function. Pretty cool I think. Ha ha and the Gm guys say only Gm parts are universal. Lol

Re: Question on headlight switch.

Can't you just use the existing connector body and repin the wires into it with new terminals?

Re: Question on headlight switch.

I probably will. Just didn't want to remove them off my perfectly good harness. I guess I can always put them back on if I ever choose to. The other reasoning behind swapping to the new switch was it gives you an extra pin for another accessory circuit plus it's a higher amp rated switch. Just curious if anyone had tried one out.
