Kinda Mustang related

Its for the shop where the Mustangs live.

Here are some shots of my new garage project that I just started.
My wife told me to stop using rungs on the wall to get up to my shops second floor, so  this is the solution.

some of the material.

Two 16 foot long 3x4x3/8 angle iron.

Some welding on the brackets and the machining process.

One of the angles getting ready to have the rack fitted.

Re: Kinda Mustang related

Picked up this new surplus gear motor, three phase. I am using a digital VFD  ( converts 220 VAC single phase to 220 VAC three phase) which is good because I can set the ramp up and down speeds, making the initial start and final stop slow.
here are pictures of the gearmotor and controll panel.

Re: Kinda Mustang related

VERY COOL PROJECT!!
I built a 5x12 CNC machine with a very similar R&P drive on all the axis, and the control box looks very similar too.

Re: Kinda Mustang related

Careful, you might have so much fun riding that up & down that you never get any work done on the car!

Wow darren that is impressive, Is it x-y-z? what kind of accuracy do you get with r&p compared to ball screw?
I have a 9x32 mill that I would love to do that to. Do you have the scematic for the controls and are the parts redily available?
Show us some  picture of the machine itself and the sort  work it performs. I'm interested.

Re: Kinda Mustang related

Thanks Rudi.
I don't want to derail your thread with my stuff.

The link I posted is my complete 10 page build thread documenting the machine start to finish, as well as some samples of completed work.
Schematics are available on that site as well.
Heres the link to my thread again...

Edited to add: The r&p uses a belt drive 4:1 reduction on the stepper motors, I routinely work to three decimal places when cutting now. Pretty accurate, I'd say.
