AC Install with compressor on passenger side

Hey wanted to check and see if anyone on here has done an AC install(either vintage or classic air) and installed the compressor on the passenger side and if so how you ran your lines.  I also need to see how I am going to mount the condenser and dryer.

The vintage air kit I got is set up to mount the condenser outlets and dryer to the driver side.  I think I can flip the condenser so the outlets are on the passenger side. If so then I will need to see where I can mount the dryer.

Just curious is someone has already tackled this and can offer some input.  I have a 67 Fastback with a Keith Craft 427 small block I'm installing the vintage air  in.  I also have the March Serpentine belt set up that mounts the compressor on the passenger side beneath the alternator.

I'm thinking this is going to make a neat and clean install as opposed to running lines over and across the engine bay.

Re: AC Install with compressor on passenger side

I' running the Vintage Air Gen 4, comp and drier on the passenger side.  Both hoses go through the core support below the battery and the LP hose comes up to the top of the condenser through a grommet in the stone guard.
Hope this helps.

Re: AC Install with compressor on passenger side

Hi , i have set up vintage air in my 66 but compressor is on driver side , so i cant be helpful but one thing in the pics leave me some doubt .
The compressor oil plug is clocked hours 9  and should be 12 as  ) vintage air sheets says ) ....

Re: AC Install with compressor on passenger side

so bullet did you just flip the condenser around to make the connections on the passenger side ?  I was thinking of putting the dryer like you did so the pics does help.  I may try and put it lower beside the radiator maybe just below where the battery tray is as well.

My compressor is an "Asian" unit from Nostalgic Air Parts.  I've had it for twelve years or so and am approaching 30k miles on it.  I checked with them when I mounted it and they said the clocking wouldn't matter...and it don't seem to.  The condenser also came from them and is made so that it can mount either way.  We just mounted a twenty inch condenser from Vintage Air in the Falcon project and I think both fittings are on the right side.  The dryer is also mounted similar to mine but the compressor is on the left so we had to do a bit of "plumbing".  Works fine though and blows real cold.

Good luck,

BB

Re: AC Install with compressor on passenger side

CONCEPT ONE OUT GEORGIA MAKES A SERPENTINE SET UP THAT MOVES THE AC COMPRESSOR TO THE PASSENGER SIDE ON THE BOTTOM ALMOST COMPLETELY HIDING THE LINES TO THE EVAPORATOR

Re: AC Install with compressor on passenger side

Reviving this old post now that I'm finally getting around to installing the AC under hood components

Have the condenser mounted and flipped so that the fittings are on the passenger side. Talked with Vintage air about flipping it and as long as I keep the #8 port on top and #6 port at bottom it will work fine.

Have dryer mounted on passenger side and I'm able to use one of the pre-made hard lines that runs from the bottom of the condenser to one side of the dryer..  Unfortunately moving everything to passenger side now I can't use the other two hard lines which are ne from the other side of the condenser and one from the other side of the dryer.

I'll either have to find someone to make these hard lines or was wondering do they have to be hard lines?  can I just run the hoses directly to these ports ?  I have a crimping tool so I could possibly do that without finding someone to make the lines.

Also Bullet Bob do you have pics of where you ran your lines under the battery tray?  I was thinking of doing the same but there isn't a lot of room to work with in that area. From your pics its hard to tell but looks like maybe you didn't use the hard lines  There is a large opening near that area for the wiring harness to run through

I''ll post some pics tomorrow of what I have done so far.
