Plug Wires & JBA Headers

For those of you using JBA 1650S headers, are you using plug wires with straight plug boots or 90 degree boots?

Re: Plug Wires & JBA Headers

90 degree; straight will not work on all but maybe 2-3 of the plugs.  I bought a set of cut to fit from Pertronix.  8mm black, and fit the factory looms.  Weren't expensive either.  Having the MSD crimp tool (spendy, but WELL worth it) makes putting them together a snap.  Took me all of about 30 minutes to make them up.

Re: Plug Wires & JBA Headers

Original plug wires used the 135 degree boots. I have used them on every Windsor typeFord engine I have built and thry always clear headers or manifolds.

Straight boots are “generic” and only came on cleveland style heads.  Ninety degree boots are for Chevies.

Re: Plug Wires & JBA Headers

Every set of replacement parts store style plug wires I've ever bought had a mixture of straight and 90 degree boots.  They could be made to work just fine with stock manifolds, but not with the headers.  Interestingly I checked Mustangs Unlimited for a set of concours wires, and the ends look the same as the parts store wires I used before making up my Pertronix set.  Here's a link for the curious:

Re: Plug Wires & JBA Headers

ever since I installed the 351w I have used 90 deg boots on all wires except the rear two on the driver side.  90 deg will not fit there, so I use straight.  Some kits come with straight boots that can bend to 90 deg giving flexibility.  I used two different kits to accomplish it, because I had them both.

Re: Plug Wires & JBA Headers

These are the wires I ordered BEFORE I thought to ask the question.
It says they have 8 “multi-angle boots”. Not exactly sure what that means. I guess I’ll find out.

Re: Plug Wires & JBA Headers

I have MSD # 35383 8.5mm wires for an HEI type distributor.  These also come with straight spark plugs ends that can be bent to accommodate fitment.  I have these over 10 years with two different sets of headers (not JBA) with no issues.  I think you'll be pleased with your selection.

Re: Plug Wires & JBA Headers

Multi angle boots means they can be bent and will hold their shape.  They will go from straight to near 180 degree and anything in between.

Re: Plug Wires & JBA Headers

Running JBA1650's with MSD 90 degree plug wire boots. They fit perfectly and clear the headers fine.
