Carb settings

I have a 1965 289, stock 2 barrel carb autolite, seems to have a strong smell of gas like getting too much, but car is running very good, what are the bench settings for the mixture screws?

Re: Carb settings

The mixture screws only affect fueling at and just off idle.  Out 1.5 turns from fully seated is the standard answer.  Its a good starting point anyway.  Then set curb idle speed on a warm engine.  Then adjust mixture screws out to get the highest idle.  Reset curb idle speed.  That will be your best lean idle setting.

Re: Carb settings

Hello Doc , once i got my autolite rebuild with average gasket spare parts kits , is quite easy to set .
Better if you search some pages about settings and set to oem standards .  The accelerator pump or springs can  be changed to perform better.
check the sparks plug to be sure you are rich .   Could be some carb  leaks , the gas smell you feel ?

Re: Carb settings

If you can smell gas, I'd check if the float level is set right and if there's a carb leak.
