Distributor. Its longer on the End. Does that 1" end come out of the EFI distributor so I can install in the new one? Thanks

No, but it may not even matter. Measure the depth of the driveshaft well in both distributors. So long as the shorter distributor still engages the driveshaft I don't see the issue. In other words, the well in the longer distributor should be correspondingly deeper.

The short shaft was the original style. When "stabbing" the distributor it often will not fully seat into the block because the hex inside the distributor shaft does not mate with the hex oil pump driveshaft until the gear teeth are already meshed with the cam gear. "Bumping" the starter while pushing down on the distributor fixes the misalignment and the distributor drops in.
The longer distributor shaft fixed this "problem". The hex inside the distributor shaft engages the oil pump drive before the gear teeth engage the cam gear. As the distributor drops into place the distributor shaft and the oil pump drive turn together and the misalignment never occurs.

Thanks for that answer, Texas! I knew they were interchangeable but did not know why they made it longer. I even have an old distributor with the gear removed so I can clock the oil pump shaft so the distributor will drop in, also used as oil prime drive.

Thanks for the info Guys. Everything works fine. The Duraspark just doesn't have has much coverage on the oil pump shaft. The EFI shaft and Duraspark oil pump shaft are the same size. The EFI shaft is on the right and the round non slip sleeve has to come up a bit on the oil pump shaft. AFR shaft works fine too. Plenty of clearance.
