Re: 65 Mustang jumps when trying to engage clutch

Dear Mike, Read everything you did so far. Did you tap in a new pilot bearing into the back of the crankshaft?
Being that you had an automatic trans, before you did the conversion.I redid my clutch, pressure plate,
mounts, throw out bearing,(67 289 4spd) had 37k on the car,I left my old pilot bearing in,the clutch chattered
like crazy, put a new one in (pilot bearing) that ended the problem. GOOD LUCK mustang stu

That's one of those things one wants to change when the car is apart to eliminate the need to redoing all the grunt work.  Ask me how I know?

Re: 65 Mustang jumps when trying to engage clutch

I guess I lucked out. About 1999 I changed the clutch on my ‘92 5.0 at about 130K miles. I didn’t replace the pilot bearing.  A friend’s dad said “I hope you replaced the pilot bearing.”
Nope. Luckily it has been another 19 years, another 155K miles and it’s still fine.  Whew.
