I am putting a new engine in my 67 and right now I have the whole front end off and the dash all tore out trying to find a spot to put the ECM for the efi. Just thinking that now would probably be as good as time as any to add AC. Question is, how many of you pieced together your ac, or did you just buy the complete kit? Reason I ask is that I just tore out a good compressor and condenser out of a 95 F150. System was still sealed. Thinking about buying an evaporator, binary switch, and dryer to complete the system. What else would I need? Wyatt monster struck again.

Just buy a kit. Honestly, the factory style systems are so trashed by this point, and the vacuum controls suck. You're better off just using a new, clean system that won't require impossible to find parts or methods of troubleshooting long ago forgotten.
Now, if you want to use a compressor off something like a Fox or that F150, which is likely a Denso 6P148a, or similar 6 or 8 series Denso compressor, that shouldn't be a problem. I would just discuss that with the company you buy the kit from. Plenty of people have Fox accessory drives and run the 6P148a compressor instead of a Sanden, so there's no reason this should be tough to get set up.

I have a Vintage Air Gen IV system in the 66 and we installed one in the Falcon project. That system is not close to the firewall over the transmission hump and provides a perfect place to stuff the Ford PCM. Put it there on both cars and if you leave a little extra in the harness it can be easily accessed or changed if necessary.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
