I have a 1965 Mustang 289..4bl...The guy who rebuilt the engine painted it blue. It's not the darker
blue but, is darker than a powder blue. it's too late now since it's already installed......I'm not going for everything to be stock..I'm curious as to what color it should be....It was built in Oct of 1964.....

Phil, i believe ford painted the early mustang v08 engines black and transitioned in '66 to ford corporate blue. I have an early D code coupe......I painted mine ford corporate blue....that's the color I like and it's my car....

I'm not positive but I think it is supposed to be black with gold valve covers and air cleaner with a black snout.

I'm not positive but I think the 289 2v is supposed to be black with gold valve covers and air cleaner with a black snout. The pic I have of a 4v is in black and white with the cobra valve covers and chrome open air cleaner.

Hope this helps.
Like Josh said, it's your car so it's up to you 😉
