I am installing a MDL T5 conversion kit into my 65 FB with a 289. I am using a MS clutch cable kit as part of the install. I know several people on here have run the Hedman 88408 headers but the drivers side just don't look like it is going to fit well. Collector is touching the bell housing where the clutch cable goes:

That is definitely going to be a problem. The 351w hedman headers seem to fit alot better.than the 289 version, as far as cable clearance.
You need about 1” clearance for the cable, plus adequate insulation for the cable. Is there any way to re-form that collector for more clearance?

I would rather send them back and switch to header that does not need to be reformed if I could find some that can be verified to work by someone that has done the combo I am using. I have heard the JBA's fit better but they have larger tubes that I don't need for the performance level I am targeting.

JBAs fit the cable clutch setup just fine. But, if you have or plan a Borgeson power steering system I would not use them because they hit the steering box. Taking a large steel dowel and hammer to a brand new, coated set of headers is just not an enjoyable experience.
I have heard that FPA headers clear both. Spendy, but absolutely the best headers on the market.

I have FPAs for my 68 auto but they are not a good fit for cable clutch. I put electric power steering on the 65 so no issues there...went with the JBAs.

I have Hedman 351 long tube headers on my 66 coupe. I used a second gen (longer) cable and mad a heat sheild similar to those used on Harleys attached to the tube closest to the bell housing

Amen. My Hedman 351's really fit well except for a tightness @ #1 spark plug that needs a cut down box wrench to remove.

I have that exact same setup w/ my T5. (Actually a 302) But headman 88408. I ended up cutting about 3/8" inch from that protrusion that makes contact with the collector. Ultimately, you only need to barely clear the OD of the collector. A grinder with a large fly cut wheel makes it quick work on that soft aluminum. A dremel w/ a grind tip can clean it up enough to look decent.
