There is an event being held at the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, MI called Wings and Wheels. It is about 40 miles from the Bash Hotel in Adrian, MI. Attached is a link. Willow Run was a bomber plant during WWII building B-24 Liberator bombers and was run by Ford. This was also where "Rosie the Riveter" came from. If I can help with any more info, just let me know.

We will be staying through Monday, Bob, but the plan is to spend Sunday and Monday at the Museum and Village.
Now you are tempting me.

It was just something I came across in the last couple of days. I would like to get a ride in the B-17 or the
B-25 myself.

It is really awesome to hear a B-17 fly over. Its like all four engines are laboring beyond belief to pull that thing through the air. We used to see one fly over during the Dallas air shows.
I, too, am planning to be at the Ford museum Sunday and Monday.
How many will be doing the same? Wondering if we could rent a van and all go together, leaving the Mustangs in a safe location.

I took a ride in B-17 Sentimental Journey about ten years ago. Very emotional for me and my RC buddy had the same experience. When you are in that thing and thinking about 18-20 year old kids doing what they did it gets to you...or at least is did to me.
Butt (TS&T), worth the price.

I am thinking the same thing, Steve, or using Uber. We'll need to look in the the van deal when we get there.

My old boss, a WWI Vet, met his wife at a USO show. She worked at Willow Run as a "Rosie".
He was a flight engineer and was shot down on his first mission, spent time in the POW camp. The stories he told were amazing. Real Hogan's Heroes, Stalag 17 type stuff, with escapes, tunnels, secret radios, bribes, etc. Sadly, he passed away last year. Nicest man I have ever met.

Sounds like we need to extend our time in Mich. I'd rather go to the Ford plant. I'd be for leaving the cars someplace safe but it'd be fun to park it in front of the FORD sign. I grew up with those airplanes. My dad flew both B-24's and B-29's. Pretty soon CAF will be moving them to Dallas.

Are you expecting some unsafe situations there Steve?

Never been there before, so I do not know. Might be more fun if all together, but I also appreciate a good photo op!

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
