    AOD TV pressure question

    Hello I’ll have a question about pressure settings in my AOD transmission with lokar cable kit
    I have a 1980 302  with a 1406 elder Brock carburetor with the lokar TV cable and the geometry corrector my question is according to the lokar  instructions I am to set the TV pressure at 32  to 36  psi with the engine warm transmission in neutral lokar cable tool inserted on the cable and when I remove the tool I should drop to zero on my gauge I’ve done everything according to the instructions and I have everything operating the way they say but they also say that I should get immediate response from the throttle with the  gauge

    I do not I have about a 500 to 600 RPM difference before the gauge starts to move Without the gauge installed in drive when I set the gauge with the tool installed till I get immediate Throttle  response  my gauge is set at about 41 psi

    Is that too high

    also With the tool removed transmission and drive gauge still hooked up my pressure goes up to about 15 psi in drive when I put it back in park it goes back to zero is that normal

    Too high (especially only 41) is not a problem, and preffered to too low, which will burn up the friction and steel plates.

    BTW with Lokar cable and bracket.. Sonnax geometry corrector is not recommended.. I had it the same way as you.. called Lokar and they told me to notice how the cable doenst move immediately with throttle movement no matter how much you adjust as the corrector takes the cable higher than where cable comes out of that bracket..and puts a slack on it..

    I removed mine, and reinstalled the cable

    RPM makes no difference on TV cable pressure because it valve operated.. yes there is pump pressure that is then "converted" into TV pressure after the TV valve is opened.. but this issue you are having is also something I read about on the internet and is solved with a return spring..

    but mine wasnt going to zero completely so I added a return spring on the transmission and that maks sure it drops to zero everytime.

    according to a trans builder, and like Bob said above too high tv pressure is ok.. too low is going to burn it up.

    I have mine running now .. still needs minor adjustoments, but not bad..
     

    If it aint broke, I have'nt tried to "Fix" it yet!
