What suggestions for front coil springs and rear leaf springs on stock 66 mustang front suspension with UCA Drop.
Running 15" tires with stock 97 explorer 5.0/T5z using 8" rear axle, manual steering?
Wanting a driver for the street and highway. Would like to take on/off ramps with some speed on occasion and still be able to drive car on street and take long trips to car shows out of state and my first MS BASH. Car is not on road yet (getting close). Has 620 front coil spring now and stock rear leaf spring.

Use the specs that Daze has on his site(found on here in a couple spots)
More importantly for on/off ramp fun you need a 1" sway bar...one piece export brace... and a Monte Carlo bar to stiffen up the front suspension SUPPORT area. This with the "Shelby drop" will make it handle like its on rails. No kidd'in!

X2
And leave your current springs on. The only reason to change is if you want to lower the car. Then a 1" dropped front spring and reverse eye rear spring. That'll get you down pretty good. But some think a reverse eye rear is too much preferring a mid eye. But wait until you do the other things first.;

X2 on the 1" front sway bar and bracing. Going to need subframe connectors if you want the handling to be precise.
Handling on a 15" wheel is going to be somewhat relative, especially with the tire selection available currently. A 16-17" wheel will give you a lot of good and cheap options for tires and will hold the road a lot better due to the reduced sidewall.
I'd also advise keeping the springs that are in it, though 4.5 leaf rear springs can help with axle wrap if its an issue.

Ok, I will keep the 620 front coil spring and stock rear leaf spring. I though 16" Rims would interfere with the upper ball joint. What would the specs be on a 16" rim. Backspacing? I assume 16x7 front and rear.Not really wanting to go to 17" rims. I appreciate all the knowledge being passed on.

I run 16x7 steelies w/4.25" back spacing. There is room for the ball joints (~1/16"). You might be able to use +- 0.25" on the BS depending on your wheel, and how your suspension is set up. The wheel configuration at the mounting face area, and the design of the wheel drop out sometimes interferes. My issue is at the inside rim edge aginst the caliper. There are so many variables that you must test fit your wheels. I also have 12.19" rotors - Willwood-If you have smaller rotors you might have more space. Again - Test fit before you buy.

My mid-eye rear springs gave me the perfect amount of lowering I wanted in the back. YMMV.
